She startled awake, diving out of a nightmare about Jack.

She held her forehead and sighed, remembering where she was at the same time she recalled Harry's touch and their escape.

Although she could argue Jack could find Harry's London address, she felt a warm sense of protection in his bed. The sheets were white and sunlight washed in through the open window wonderfully. She had a warm, light feeling in her stomach and smiled, almost completely forgetting her fear minutes ago.

Harry paced at the door, hands held behind him and brow creased in concentration. He bit on his cheek, trying to deter himself from the gnawing feeling in his gut. He stopped, turned to her door and almost knocked. Couldn't do it. He continued pacing.

She inhaled softly but deeply before pulling the door open. Harry jumped in fright and she chuckled.

"Morning, Hazzle," she greeted, bowing shortly before prancing off down the passage.

"Good morning to you, too." He slid into the bar stool, eyeing her carefully. "You seem in a better mood than usual."

She rounded the island, stopping at his side and placing her hand on his strong shoulder.

"I feel a lot safer around you actually."

A grin filled his face and Maia decided he looked more complete with a smile. "What do you want for breakfast? I'll cook," she offered.

"I want a sandwich."

"Are you insulting my cooking ability?"

His laugh erupted from behind her as she picked up a plate.

"No, not just any sandwich. I want my family's sandwich."

"Glad you offered." She yanked loose the apron she was busy tying to her waist. She winked as she walked past, adding, "With a cup of coffee, if you will."

She left to shower and he shook his head at her, wondering how she could exert so much confidence for someone in her position. And the fact he had been outwitted.

She returned later with a towel wrapped around her head, dressed in a new outfit.

"That's a nice shirt," he commented humourously, glancing up from the kettle. "I didn't know you were such a fan of unicorns."

"They're legend, Harry. In more ways than one." She sat were he had and rested her head on her elbows.

"I think I saw you wear that shirt when we were kids, Maia."

"Now you're just offending my boobs," she muttered.

His eyes dropped to the empty mug in his hands with a smirk. "I was not."

She tried not to laugh at his expression. "Creep," she teased, before biting into an apple.

His eyes shifted and dived into hers. "Yet you still kissed me."

She gulped. Her words had run dry.

"Come here, Maia. I have something to show you," Harry finally said, slanting his arms behind him to hold his body upright. When she froze in place Harry leaned in toward her. "Come on. I don't bite."

His smile misted her brain and she stood, shuffling in front of him. His large frame almost engulfed her without even touching her skin.

"Unless you're into that sort of thing."

A chilling tingle crawled up her spine like a spider.

"I'm n-not."

A deep chuckle vibrated through his chest. "I'm just kidding."
