"Ally, where's Maddie's pacifier?" I ask while bouncing the screaming nine month old."Should be in her crib," my wife says. I look down at our 6 year old daughter, "Brooklyn, go get it for me, please?" She nods before running full speed, nearly bumping into our oldest.
"Brooklyn, slow down!" I call after her.
"Ma? Have you seen my other cleat?" Jahseh asks, dressed in his baseball uniform. I shake my head, still bouncing the fussy child in my arms.
Lord, why haven't I learned my lesson and wore protection?
Just then, someone knocks on the front door. I pass Madison to him, "Hold her for a minute. Probably your cousins." He nods, rocking her slowly. She stops fussing after a second.
This li'l girl-
The bell rings again, "I'm coming! Damn!" I jog to the door and open it, revealing Kid, Camila, Louis, and Daniel. The youngest boy was wearing the same uniform as Jah.
He was also holding a shoe in his hand, "You left this in the car." He says as they walk in and I close the door behind them. Jah then passed Madison to Camila while he slipped on his shoe.
"What's up, Big Man," I say to Louis, dapping him up. "Nothin', for real," he replies and my eyes widen. "Since when your voice got deep, li'l homie?" He laughs, "Pebs, I'm 14."
I shake my head, "I remember when you were four. Laying on your godmoms' titties and shit." He furrows his brows, "Which ones? I got like 70."
"Mani and Jesy," I tell him. He nods, "Makes sense, I guess."
"Pebbles? Y'all got sumna drink?" Daniel asks, sounding like his damn parent. "Yeah, go wash your hands before you touch anything in there, Ant," I say to him.
"2020 fucked me up," I mumble. Kid heard me and nods, "I still bring my mask."
Brooklyn finally runs in, eating a box of Digestives Jade sent her, "I ain't find it."
"But you were able to find that box?" I ask her with a raised brow. She shrugs and starts walking pass me and I take the box right out of her hands. She begins to whine until I give her that look.
You know that look.
"You can get these back after you learn to stop going in our room. Now, go put on your shoes." She pouts and looks as if she'd cry as she turns and walks to her room.
"Aw, Pebbles, why did you do my sobrina like that?" Camila says while holding a giggly Maddie to her face, kissing her cheek afterwards. "She know better," I say, setting the box on the table.
Daniel comes back with a juice box, pointing to it while looking at me, "May I have this, please?" He asks politely. Sis and Homie taught him right. I nod at him, "Go 'head."
He smiles, one of his front teeth missing, and turns back to go in the dining room to drink it.
"Lou-Lou, are you thirsty or something?" The teen sighs, "Mamí, I told you to stop callin' me that. It's Louis." Camila goes over to him and pinches the slightly taller boy's cheek, "You'll always be my Lou-Lou Man no matter how old you are."
He groan, getting away from her, "Ma, tell her that I'm almost a grown man." Kid just laughs, "I think the fuck not."
