Some know only the privileges of happiness and freedom, to have a reason to wake up and dream. Then there's me, Ken...the man without any reason to dream or hope. I can't show it, but I curse every day I wake up and have to live with what's left of me. Sad to say, but whatever's left of me is chained deep inside this hollow body. I shouldn't even call myself a body, I'm more of a shadow in which I resemble a person but isn't quite so. I didn't even have much of a life for them to take but what I did have they definitely took away from me. I miss hearing the birds and seeing Mya. I can't even grasp the concept of light anymore, there is no light. Despite what I once was my life revolves around darkness, just laying at the pit of a hole and staring up only to find no light.....only dark
A bright ray of sunshine beams through the window of a small house in Los Angeles, California. "God dammit" ken thought as he blocked the blinding shine with his forearm while arising from his bed. Ken Grant wills himself up to close his blinds and pet his yawning dog foxxy on the head. "Come on girl, I want to sleep all day too but we've got a bit of things to do today". Foxxy perks her chihuahua head up and proceeds to jump off of the bed and follow her master ken into the kitchen. Ken goes into his refrigerator to get the eggs and bacon ready to be cooked. "I need a damn woman in this house foxxy, unless you can learn how to scramble these eggs" he jokingly exclaimed. Ken cracks the eggs and places three strips of bacon into a pan. After turning the eye of his stove on he sees Foxxy lift her head up at Ken while panting her tongue profusely. A figurative light bulb lights in Ken's mind as he remembers to get his dogs food out for her. While getting her chow his door bell rings, he rushes to finish pouring food into her bowl and then answers. At the door was a beautiful fair skinned delivery girl with a box in her hands. "Hello sir, I have a delivery for you" she told him in her soft sweet voice. Ken had been waiting on this package for a while, a couple weeks back he had ordered parts for his car's engine from a station in Mexico. Ken was distracted by the beauty of the delivery girl and didn't notice the clipboard she was trying to have him sign. She chuckled then snapped her finger to grab his attention for the sake of getting her task done. Ken embarrassingly came to from his momentary trance to sign his name onto the paper. The woman went to the delivery truck and struggled to set out several large boxes that were assigned to Ken. Seeing the size of the box Ken goes over and assists bringing the fairly large boxes into his front door. "Thank you ma'am" he says as the woman departs from his home to finish her rounds. Ken faintly hears his dog's barking from the adjacent room. Ken rushes in there only to the sight and smell of overdone eggs and shriveled up bacon.
"Fantastic...." ken sighed out loud, ken typically had some pretty bad luck. A few hours later ken strolls down his neighborhood towards his mother's house. Ken never really was social and didn't know much about anyone who lives near or around the area. He never really felt the need to because he figured hehe wouldn't offer much conversation to many people anyway.
An hour and a half later he arrived at his mother's house bearing a dozen flowers and a card for his mother. They were belated gifts because on her actual birthday ken didn't call. Following his mothers advice on trying to be a more sociable started with trying to keep in contact with her more. Ken was all his mother had left because his father Micheal had passed years earlier. His mother lived with her caretaker by her side because at 65 she was unable to walk or do much else. She was always happy to see her only child, detached weirdo or not. Upon entering the fairly nice home his mother and father worked their entire lives to have, he was greeted at the door by the relatively young Janet Caine whom had been hired to take care of his mother. She took his flowers to put in water as Ken surprised his mother with his arrival at her house. His sweet dear mother had been lying on her bed which was a big mattress covered in red silk sheets and a matching warm looking comforter. His mother gave the biggest smile she could muster as he walked beside her and kissed her on the cheek. "How are you Ken, you look more and more like your father everytime I see you" she tells him. "Hey ma, just stopping by to give you your late birthday present for your....what was it 25th birthday?". Ken didn't show it much but he really did love and truly care for his mother. "You have charm just like your father too" she says before giggling for 45 seconds straight at her son's joke. "You really should come out of your shell more Ken, it's a shame how vibrant and full of life you can be but you just won't talk much besides to me and that dog". She holds his hand as she wishes him farewell since by that time it was about to be dark in a few hours and they both figured he ought to start departing back from where he was. On the way back from where he was he decided to pick up some more dog food and groceries from a nearby market. When he left there it had been about 5:30 and since the daylight savings had kicked in he didn't have much sunlight left. As he arrived by his doorstep he noticed the same delivery truck across the street from where he lived. The same pretty girl was across the street as well delivering a package to the heavyset Latin man who lived across from Ken.
Upon entering his home again he was greeted by an enthusiastic and barking foxxy as she was expecting dinner at about this time. He poured her some food and sat down to his own meal. After rinsing his plate ken took those heavy boxes from earlier into his garage ken decided it was about time to work on his car engine so he wouldn't have to walk around so much, even though he occasionally enjoyed it. While working on the engine ken couldn't help but to think of what his mother's advice to him was. Maybe it was about time for Ken to spread his wings and talk to some more people so that his mom and foxxy weren't his only friend's. Then a loud knock came at the door which sent his little chihuahua into a barking frenzy. Ken opened the final box of his car parts to continue his work when getting back when he noticed the contents weren't what he expected. There weren't car parts in that last box, there were several large bricks shaped individually packaged objects. Another series of loud ear piercing knocks initiated while Ken's heart started to race. Using his finger he poked a hole through one of the rectangular packages to notice that he was unknowingly carrying pure cocaine and not engine parts.
