Jade Harris...this is my story, I can do this...she thought to herself staring at her reflection in the mirror.
Moved into her grandmother's cottage after her nan died...twenty four year old woman who found work at the local diner so she could feed herself...no family, no boyfriend....no nothing. Her once blond hair now light brown and always in a simple neat bun or ponytail.
Moved to Stanwell Hopes one month ago, just looking to make ends meet...that was her story....
Making her way to work, her first day, her boss Charlie, a nice black man who was old enough to be her father, or even grandfather, took pity on her and gave her the job. Said she reminded him of somebody.
She could do this, she had to do this, do not be intimidated, it's only a job, you can do this Jade. She continued to build her confidence as she walked into the diner. Scanning the room she looked for Charlie.
"You must be the newbie" the red haired waitress asked her. Jade looked at the green eyed beauty and nodded.
"Yeah, don't really know where to start to be honest" she said biting the inside of her mouth. She rubbed her lips together thinking if she could honestly do this.
"Well for one, you can start wiping the tables and setting down the chairs, fill the salt shakers, the ketchup..." Wow okay, Jade nodded her head and began to the task at hand.
It was literally the most exhausting day of her life. But it had to be done, so she kept a smile on her face and saw to her job. A few locals were checking her out, she felt extremely uncomfortable, hating how things always went back to who could intimidate who. She refused to be intimidated by anybody, so she sucked up her concerns and went to take their orders.
"Ready?" she asked. One guy looked her up and down and like seriously licked his lips. "Hey your eyes are like silver, what the fuck is that?" she cringed, her light blue eyes sometimes turned a very light blue, almost looking silver like. She hated that aspect about her, it was her show of weakness, usually meant she was upset or afraid, but in this case it would be trying not to show her uncomfortableness.
"Can I get you something?" she asked again.
"Yeah, how bout a date?" the blue eyes ass asked her.
"If your not going to order than you need to leave..."
"Charlie your waitress is kicking us out!" he yelled out to the boss. Charlie walked over to her and moved her aside gently.
"Come on Garry, no need for that, order your food son" the man now known as Garry smiled his perfect teeth showing.
"I only asked her for a date...seems she don't like me...Gotta say Charlie, that hurts man...like realy hurts" That was the last thing she expected. This Garry guy was teasing her. She rolled her eyes at him and smiled secretly.
As they were talking the room seemed to have filled with electricity. Garry and his crew looked alert suddenly.
Jade was looking around trying to determine what the fuss was all about, the diner was filled with a very strange silence. Not able to understand what they were all so worked up about, the only things she noticed was a guy and a young boy walk into the diner.
"Not now Garry, let it go..."
"He comes here?" Garry said getting up, he pushed past Charlie. The other three men sat back and watched. Garry went over to the now seated man and the boy. "I heard you were back, what you doing here?"
