It was a quiet day, as per usual. It was never really busy here. An old book store right in the middle of LA? Who's idea was that? We got the regulars every few days, stopping by to pick up something fresh to read but never anyone actually interesting. It was almost closing time, so I started getting the store ready to be locked up. I picked up my things and put a few books back. I began to make my way out and headed out the door. I slightly opened the door and the wind threw it open, startling a fairly young girl with the prettiest blue eyes I had ever seen.
"I'm so sorry!" I yelled as I rushed over to help her up.
"No worries! Sometimes the wind just has a mind of it's own." she laughed. I grabbed her hand and she hopped back up. She had short, curly brown hair and the most adorable smile.
"What's your name?" she asked. I barely heard her ask, I was too lost in the beautiful figure standing right in front of me.
"Oh, yeah. My name. I'm y/n." I stuttered.
"Y/n. I like that. I'm Isabel, but you can call me Izzy. I live right upstairs." She said as she pointed to the apartment that settled right above the bookstore. I had always know it was there but I had never seen her before. I always assumed it was an old person who didn't get out much.
"Oh really? Well, as I'm sure you can guess, I work in there." I informed.
She smiled at me and started to speak.
"Yah, I've walked by a few times and have always meant to come in and check it out. I just get busy and forget."
"No worries. There's not much to see, anyways." I said. It was the truth. The bookstore was old and dull. Inside were dusty bookcases and old smells. Some of the books hadn't been touched in ages. It was like a book cemetery.
"Oh, I don't necessarily agree with that." she suddenly said, looking down at the ground with a shy smile. Was she flirting with me? I had really never been flirted with before. My initial reaction was to just take the compliment and move on, but I didn't want to. This was my chance to meet someone new and take the boringness out of my life. I grin at her.
"Then maybe you should come in sometime. I'm working all summer." There. Subtle yet informative enough to where she would hopefully catch on. That's if she was flirting with me in the first place. I hoped so.
"Maybe I will. I'm off to pick up some dinner and then I'm headed over to my parent's place. I'll see you around." she smiled. I felt butterflies. I had never felt this way. Around here, everybody was always either rude to me or just flat out strange. Izzy, she was perfect. I said goodbye and started for my car. I drove back to my house. ( technically my parent's house, I was just in town for summer as I went to college in Washington.)
I sat on my bed and wondered about her. I wanted to know everything about her. I decided, against my better judgement, that I would google her. Just for fun. I pulled out my laptop and began to type. Isabel Jones. ( she had told me her last name in our earlier conversation) Immediately I saw her face show up on the screen. It turns out she was in a pop rock band with her 5 siblings. Wow. She had been doing it for a long time too. I also learned she was the lead singer and played the bass, which was very attractive. I decided to listen to some of their songs and instantly fell in love. I went to bed that night thinking about her and thinking about when she would pop in to say hello. I hoped it would be soon.
