When we got to the ER, Benny came to get me from the front seat. He carried me over to the wheelchairs and set me in one so he wouldn't have to carry me all over the hospital. He sat next to me in the waiting room while August went to the desk to get me checked in and fill out any paperwork.
"Are you feeling okay? Do you need anything? Are you hungry?" Benny asked me. He's been freaking out like this since we got here.
"Benny, really I'm fine. I have a bit of a headache, and obviously my foot hurts, but there's nothing we can do right now. Just calm down."
"I know, I know. But I just want to be able to fix it for you. I mean, you're my baby sister. I shouldn't let stuff like this happen to you." He ran his fingers through his hair.
"Benny, this was not your fault at all. In fact, if you didn't come home when you did, it could've been so much worse." I squeezed his hand as August came over to us.
"So, the man at the front said they should call you within 5 or so minutes." He said as he sat next to Benny. We sat quietly for a few minutes, not really knowing what to say about everything that had happened.
"Cecilia Evans?" I perked up as the nurse called my name. "Only one person can come with you, Miss." August stood up quickly, likely because he's the oldest.
"I'd rather Benny come with if that's okay." I said awkwardly.
"Oh. Yeah, no that's cool." He sat back down, seemingly hurt. I felt a little bad, but I didn't really want to be alone with him. Benny stood up and wheeled me back to the room.
---
"Well, Cece, it sounds like you've had quite the night. You're gonna need stitches on your heel, and it seems likes you have a bit of head trauma, but not quite a concussion. You might be sensitive to light for a little while, and you will likely get migraines. I'll send you home with a care sheet and a doctor's note to give to your school. You should stay home from school for at least a day or two. And for the stitches, you will have to keep off your foot at least until they come out in 2 weeks. You're going to have to use crutches. I'll prescribe you a mild painkiller to help." The doctor told me.
"Wait, does that mean I won't be able to do cheer?" I asked him.
"Definitely no cheer at least until your stitches are out, if not longer. I'm sorry." I felt crushed by this news. As if Riley hadn't ruined enough of my life already. "I will be back shortly to administer the stitches." Benny could tell I was sad, and he wrapped an arm around me and lightly rubbed my shoulder.
"I'm really sorry about cheer, that sucks a lot. August said he called mom, she's going to be stuck in Vegas for an extra week." I groaned. I just wanted her here. So much had happened since she left. "I know it sucks, but I'm here for you."
"Benny can I use your phone? Mine's at home and I want to call Payton." He passed it over to me.
---
After I called Payton and filled him in on everything, the doctor came back and gave me stitches. It hurt so much when the doctor put them in that I cried. I felt bad for Benny, I squeezed his hand so hard I'm surprised I didn't break it. After the stitches were in and my bandage was put on, Benny got all of the paperwork from the doctors and wheeled me out. We met August in the waiting room, and Benny told him what all had happened. We went out to the car and helped me in before returning the wheelchair. We drove to the pharmacy to pick up my medication, which I took once we got it.
"Cece, what do you want from McDonalds? It's almost 8 pm and none of us have had dinner." August asked me as we rolled into the drive-thru across the street.
"I'm not really hungry." I said, which was true. Today had been so long, exhausting, and painful that I hadn't had time to think about food.
"You should eat something. Just get her a happy meal or something." Benny suggested, and I didn't have the energy to argue with him. August ordered me a mcnugget meal. I ate two of them and a few fries before I couldn't stomach any more. Thank god Benny decided not to push it today. I felt my eyes getting heavier and I slowly drifted off on the drive home.
---
I woke up the next morning and saw that it was 10. I panicked, realizing I was late for school and I hopped out of bed. I immediately remembered that I wasn't supposed to do that as I felt a shooting pain in my heel. I screamed out in pain as I fell over to the ground and immediately covered my mouth, hoping nobody heard. I pulled myself to my feet using my bed and dresser and kept my weight off my heel as I limped toward my door. Benny came running in
"Oh my god what's wrong?" He asked.
"It's fine, I'm fine."
"Cecilia, you can't be walking. You know this." He wrapped his arm around me to keep me off of my foot completely.
"It's fine, I just forgot. But I can just use the wall and the stair rail to get around."
"Uh, you definitely cannot use the stairs right now." Benny warned. "Are you hungry? You're supposed to take your pills with food, so I can make you some pancakes or something." He offered.
"Uh sure, I guess that sounds good. As long as you don't burn the house down." He rolled his eyes and carried me downstairs. He set me down on the couch and went into the kitchen.
"So, why are you home?" I asked.
"Well first of all, I'm never ever ever leaving you home alone after yesterday. Also you can't really be home alone with your injuries, and August had a math test. Not that you'd want him to stay with you anyway." He said.
"That's true. I kind of feel bad but I just can't look at him the same after what he said to me."
"I can't blame you. He was a shitty brother, and him apologizing doesn't change that." He flipped the first pancake onto a plate and brought it over to me. It had some blueberries in it, just how I like them. I began to eat it.
"Am I allowed to watch TV with my head, or no?" I asked him.
"You can, but if it hurts, you have to stop. And you have to be honest."
"Okay, cool." I turned the TV on and put on a disney movie to make myself feel better. I would always watch these when I was sick at home.
"Also, the painkillers might make you drowsy. That's probably why you slept for 14 hours." He informed me. I didn't realize I was out that long. He flipped his own chocolate chip pancake and came to sit on the couch with me.
"Benny? Would you grab me a blanket?" He reached over to grab one and tossed it over me. After I finished my pancake, I could feel myself slowly drift to sleep.
