I opened the container to my greek yogurt and almost vomited.
"Ew! Mom! My yogurt is rotten!" I yelled to my mom upstairs.
"There should be another one in the top drawer!"
"OK! Thanks!"
I was only back from Mary's house for 5 minutes, and my morning was already going bad. I looked around in the back of the fridge, got the yogurt, and put some in a bowl with granola.
"Honey, it's ok to eat a pop tart once in a while." My mom said as she walked through the kitchen door, a towel wrapped in her hair.
"I like how I eat," I replied.
"Ok well, we've got to leave in 15 minutes if we don't want to be late."
"Only 15 minutes?"
I ran up to my room and started curling my hair. A second later I shrieked.
"Ow!" Tears started to run down my face. My curling iron burnt the top of my forehead. I looked in the mirror and saw a big red oval.
"No, no, no, this can't be happening, not today," I mumbled.
I added foundation on it and it worked! I was so relieved. I walked over to the other side of the hall to the bathroom and washed my tears. My outfit was great and I looked like I was ready. I went outside and got in the car. I loved this car, it belonged to my dad, who moved to Oregon. He and mom split up, but I like to think that it needed to happen--that they are happier now. I visit him every summer and on some holidays. I miss him, but it could be worse. He let us keep the car because my mom wasn't doing well with money, and he wanted to help out.
After waiting about 15 seconds, my mom stepped into the driver's seat, and off we went to meet Mary at school. My heart was throbbing as we pulled up to our school. We had been going there for a while, but our class was split up into 2 groups this year. We weren't in the same group though. We had lunch and snacks together but that's it. I got out of the car as my mom wished me good luck. The school was giant with 3 buildings with two stories on each one.
I felt somebody covering my eyes.
"Guess who it is?" Mary asked excitedly.
"Hmm, let me guess. . . Mattheo?"
"No."
"Mary?"
"Bingo!"
We walked up the main entrance and walked up the stairs to the 6th-grade homeroom class. I was about 5 minutes early, but there were already 20 people there. I looked around for the seat with my name tag on it, but I couldn't find one. So I sat in the back corner of the classroom. Mary left and I started reading my Nancy Drew book. I was in the middle of finding out the culprit when someone tapped me on the shoulder. I turned around and saw Mattheo's hazel eyes staring at me.
"Can I please borrow a pencil?" He asked.
"U-uh sure." I stuttered.
"Thanks." He said and walked back to his seat.
I began thinking, Why did he walk over here to ask for MY pencil? 5 people are sitting all around him and he walked across the room just to ask me? I need to tell Mary.
I looked at the clock. Ugh 2 hours till recess. How can I survive 2 whole hours without Mary?
The teacher's booming voice interrupted my thoughts.
