Chapter 9 ~ Are You Okay?

You decided to go to Your Bosses house to see Tom's Birthday. You about down the street from it, and you notice Tom is outside talking to someone who just walked out the door. They remove the hood from their hoodie. It's Gwen.
Gwen: Thanks for inviting me after David and I broke up. I need something like this.
Tom: No problem.
You noticed a sad expression on his face.
Gwen: Are you okay, Tom?
Tom: it's nothing. Do you want to take a walk?
Gwen: sure.
They start walking away from his parent's house.
Y/N: shit.
You start waking back home, and of course, it has to begin raining.
Y/N: oh, come on.
A car beeps at you, and the window rolls down.
Derek: get in.
You get into the car.
Y/N: you're a lifesaver, Derek.
Derek: so how you been lately?
Y/N: I'm confused about how I have been doing.
Derek: explain?
You explain everything from Work, Issac, and then Tom.
Derek: so you scared to see how he'd react to you telling him.
Y/N: exactly.
He stops the car at Cassidy's house.
Derek: only one person for this job.
You both get out of the car and walk towards Cassidy's house. They open the door and let you inside you explain to them what's going on.
Cassidy: I think you tell him.
Y/N: What!!!
Cassidy: you his best friend, he isn't going to ghost you fit, saying you like him. And if he does, you could always move apartments or even cities.
You start to panic, and Derek rubs your back.
Derek: that's not helping Cass.
Cassidy: sorry, not sorry, my friends.
Y/N: I'll do it.
You text Tom and tell him to meet you later.
Cassidy: you're a tough cookie, my friend, unlike Derek.
You look at Derek, confused.
Derek: Lyra asked me to meet her parents this weekend, and I'm freaking out.
Y/N: I'm sure they'll love you.
He nods, and then you both look at Cass.
Cassidy: nope, I'm going to bed. Good night.
They go upstairs and shit their door, and you start walking towards the front door.
Derek: good luck.
You walk out, heading straight towards your apartment. It felt like destiny. You and Tom both arrived at the same time you walk towards each other, walking into the building in silence.
Tom: Are you okay?
Y/N: yeah, I'm good. How are you?
Tom: I'm okay.
You reached your floor, both of you get off and walk towards your doors.
Y/N: to answer your question Tom.
Your heart starts to race, and you clench your hand.
Y/N: I don't have a crush on you. I enjoy our friendship.
His face went from a smile to a faint grin like it wasn't the answer he was expecting.
Tom: oh, I was just curious.
He goes into his room first, and you look at his door for a while.
Y/N: shit.
You go inside and sit in the shower letting the water rain into your head.
Y/N: I'm not ready, just not yet.
