"Happy Birthday Sapphire!!!" my whole family shouted as I make my way through the door.

Today is my 16th birthday and my family threw me the same "surprise" birthday. Although since its the same one as every year its not that much of a surprise.

I don't really care that much about it being the same as always because its the only time of year I get to see my whole family. As I make my way through the entrance of my home I give hugs and kisses to everyone in my path. They all just keep saying the same old things like "Look how much you have grown", "Have you gotten taller?", and "You look so strong and beautiful." Which in my case was a total lie; I just got back from school and was wearing jean shorts and a blue crop top. But I just smile and thank everyone for coming. When I finally make my way through everyone I try sneaking up stairs.

"Where do you think your going?", my cousin Lexi says. She thinks I shouldnt leave me own party.

My cousin Lexi always seems to know when things are wrong. "Birthday Girl get your lil butt down here." Lexi says with a smile thats contagious, as she pushes her pitch black hair out of her face.

I give her a half smile, make my way down the stairs, and tuck my red hair behind my ear. I try making an excuse, that im just going to go upstairs for a few minutes to change my outfit.

"Sapphire I have known you since we were in diapers, whats wrong?" I try playing it off by giving her a hug and assuring her im fine. Although shes not buying it one bit.

"Fine then you won't mind if I join you, to help pick something out." she says as she makes her way up the stairs and to my room.

"Nope I don't mind at all, even if your already in my room!" I shout with a laugh as I make my way up the stairs.

Once I arrive at my bedroom door Lexi has already layed out three possible dresses for me to change into on my bed. There is a black one with a white belt, a green one and a dark blue one. I pick the dark blue one and she says that its a perfect match to my natural dark blue eyes. Lexi is 19, lives anywhere she wants to, and is the best cousin in the world even; I can tell her anything. As I change she asks about school and my friends, even though I only have two of them.

Once I get out of my walk in closet in my dress and flat black shoes she pats the side of my bed next to her. I walk to her and sit down realizing even in flats she is shorter then me. "Now, what's really up cuz?" she says knowing she'll get it out of me one way or another. I just sigh and say, "Lexi am I a freak?"

She looks at me with a shocked look,  "Of course not! Why would you even ask such a question?!" But I just look at the floor.

"Well Melanie tried to trip me in school today and when she finally did my books went flying up; everything looked like it was happening in slow motion so I got up and caught them as they fell." Lexi had a worried look on her face that she quickly shook off, in an attempt for me not to notice. "Well good for you shows your coordinated more then the rest of us." she says with a small smile.

"But Melanie said that what I did wasn't normal and that I was a freak that should go back to where I came from." I said as a single tear heads down my cheek.

I try wiping it away before she sees it but she does. This isn't the first time something this has happened to me but I never understand why but Lexi always seems to have a reasonable explanation.

When I finally look up at her she seems so enraged. "First of all Melanie is a total bitch; secondly your perfect Sapphire and dont let anyone tell you other wise. Especially people like Melanie." she says in an almost protective tone. She gives me a hug and then turns me around so she can do my hair. She puts it in a french braid and when she finishes she takes me to my mirror and says, "Look, like I said perfection." I just smile and we both make our way back down stairs.
