As I walked towards Ed's flat, I heard guitar strumming. I knocked on the door tentativley, and the strumming stopped. The door flew open to reveal a shaggy, ginger-headed Brit in his early twenties.
''Nina!'' He exclaimed happily.
''Hi Ed.'' I murmered as he hugged me.
I felt guilty as we continued to exchanged plesantries while entering the small apartment. As we entered the living room, I could not help but notice that Ed had been using Nina, the guitar he named after me.We sat down on the off-white chouch and began to talk. I tried to keep the conversation going as long as possible, but Ed noticed something was off.
''Whats wrong love?'' He asked.
He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into his chest. He kissed the top of my head, waiting for me to speak. I desperately wanted to tell him that I was just nervous about taking my bar exams in a few weeks, and just stay cuddled up in his arms, maybe watch a movie. But, I knew that was not going to happen. I tried to sit up straight, but his arms were like a vise.
''Where you going?'' He asked. I wriggled out of his embrace and stood up at the arm of the couch.
''I dont think you will want me anywhere near you once I'm finished.'' I said, nervously twirling the fringe of my Sherlock inspired scarf around my fingers. His eyebrows furrowed, but he stayed silent.Waiting for me to continue. I stared at my hands and began to explain to him that I had cheated on him while he was on tour; not looking at him once and always diverting my gaze. Once I had finished my disclosure, I looked up at him; afraid. I could see dozens of emotions flash across his face.
Hurt. Anger. Heartbreak. His expression then settled on anger.
''It was Niall, wasnt it?'' He asked through clencehed teeth.
I stayed motionless. To be completly honest, I was afraid. I had never, in all of my time dating him, seen him this angry.
''Nina, answer me.'' He said after a moment of silence had passed. ''ANSWER ME!'' He shouted, the veins in his neck becoming prominet against his pale skin. I swalloed hard and noded, not being able to form words. He flung himself back onto the couch and put his head in his hands. After a moment he said, without looking up, his otherwise soothing voice began to crack ''I think you should go Nina''.
I grabbed my purse, and rifled through it. I finally found my set of keys buried in the bottom of the bag. Hands shaking and eyes blurry, I took the spare key to Eds apartment off the key ring and gently set it on the mantel. I walked out the door, closing it gently behind me. As I walked away, I heard sobbing. The cries got louder with every step I took. I walked mopey to the elevator and punched at the button to call the elevator. I stepped inside, and began to cry as the doors shut behind me.
