Problems With Love

Chapter 49

Kristen's POV

We finally get back to Chicago. Of course Kris has practice as soon as we land so we drive to the UC as fast as we can. I meet Ellie, Chelsea, and Cassie in our normal meeting place. "Hey guys!" I smile as I near them. "Hey!" they all say practically in unison.

We all go and watch practice for a while. "Ya know something?" Cassie says. "Huh?" I ask watching Crawford block Sharp's shot. "I miss playing hockey," she says. "Yeah I do too," I say. Cassie and Ellie agree.

We all used to play hockey together, but then we went to separate colleges and played against each other. Ironically none of our colleges had girls teams and we were so good we played for the guys. Honestly it was so weird to play against each other after playing together for so many years, but we eventually got used to it. Eventually meaning senior year, at like the very last game we played against each other, in the final minute of the 3rd period.

After practice Ellie, Chelsea, Cassie and I wait for the guys outside the locker room and Q pulls us into his office. Its really weird because it's never happened before.

Q's POV

"Good morning ladies," I say as I close the door. "So you may have not heard yet but the NHL has decided to let girls play. Each team has to have at least 2 so would any of you be interested in playing?" I ask. They all say yes practically at the same time. "Ok well tomorrow you'll practice with the team kind of like a tryout, so be prepared," I tell them.

TIME SKIP NEXT DAY

Kristen POV

I meet Cassie, Ellie and Chelsea in our normal meeting spot and we head down to the locker room together. Coach Q is actually waiting for us. He tells us to just go in and look for the 4 empty stalls. We do as told and put our gear on.

Coach Q comes in and announced that might be on the team if all goes well today.

Cassie's POV

Practice goes surprisingly well. After practice Coach Q call all 4 of us into his office. "You're all really good at hockey and we'd love to have you play here in Chicago. How does that sound?" he asks. "I'm probably speaking for all four of us but that would be amazing!" I say. The other girls agree.

We play our first game tomorrow against Vancouver because they also have their girls picked out. Actually all the teams do except Philadelphia, but I think they're working on it.

The four of us hang out the rest of the day and just have a girls day. We decide to go to Watertower and shop for a while.

"I can't believe starting tomorrow we're playing for the NHL," Kristen says as we shop in American Eagle. "I know right! I can't wait for tomorrow, but I'm also really nervous," Ellie responds. "Same!" I agree. "I mean I know most people don't really care, but I don't know how some of the guys on the Canucks feel," I say. "That's true. I've heard rumors that the Sedin sisters aren't a fan of girls in the NHL," Ellie says. We all laugh. "It's true I've heard that too," Kristen says. "But I also heard Kesler doesn't mind so maybe he'll get them to back off," Kristen adds.

After shopping at American Eagle we go to the Nike store. We all get a new pair of shoes because ironically we all needed a pair.

Then we decide to get some dinner. "Where should go?" I ask. "Wanna go to Harry Caray's?" Chelsea suggests.

At dinner Kristen all of the sudden like freaks out. "Oh my god!" she practically screams. "What?! What's wrong?" Ellie asks. "I totally forgot about Jared!" she says putting her head on the table. All of our mouths drop open. We all forgot about Jared. "What if I'm on the same line as him?" Kristen asks panicky. "Kristen relax, I doubt it will happen," I say hopefully.

Kris's POV

I'm at home hanging out with Raanta when Kristen comes home practically crying. "Kristen what's wrong?" I ask. She doesn't answer. "Kristen are you okay?" I ask again. She looks like she's about to have a panic attack. "I'm just freaking out! What if I'm put on the same line as Jared? What will I do then? I can't be on the same line as him! I just CAN'T!" she says practically all in the same breath.

That thought never occurred to me. It's true. What if that does happen. That line just wouldn't work at all. It'd be the worst line on the team. Raanta hugs her. "Could we just talk to Coach Q at morning skate?" he asks. "THATS actually not a bad idea," I say.

Raanta's POV

This is bad. Really bad. I think I'm falling for Kristen even more. She's dating Brandon and I'm dating Cassie. Don't get me wrong I really do love Cassie, but we've been fighting a lot lately.

Why does this always happen to me? This isn't the 1st time this has happened. Back in high school my best friend was a girl named Elsa. We talked about dating but never actually dated. Then she started dating the most popular guy in school. Casper. I could tell the really liked each other. Elsa became really popular and soon forgot about me. Yet I was in love with her. It killed me inside every time I saw them together. Then at a party I guess some crazy crap happened and she pregnant. She didn't tell Casper at first and came back to me because she thought Casper was gonna leave her since we were seniors in high school. She was wrong. He stayed with her. I remember the day she told me.

Flashback
It was a warm Friday night. It was almost summer break. It was 10:30 when I heard something hit my window. Curious I walked over to my window and opened it. "Elsa?" I say confused seeing my old best friend standing on the ground practically in tears. "Hey Antti. Can I talk to you?" she asked. "Sure come on up," I tell her.

She climbs up the tree outside my window and climbs into my room. "What's wrong?" I ask as we sit on my bed. She looks down and plays with her hands not saying anything. "Elsa?" I say quietly grabbing her hand. "Antti I'm pregnant," she finally says.

I was shocked. Why would she do this to herself. "What?" I ask speechless. She just nods and starts to cry. I hug her. "It's gonna be ok," I tell her. "Does Casper know?" "Not yet. I'm scared to tell him Antti. What if he leaves me? Then what am I going to do?" she asks. I want to tell her so badly that I'd help her but I can't. It'll ruin my hockey career. I have a chance to make it to the NHL. I don't know what to do. "Well maybe I could help you," I tell her.

You're such an idiot Antti! You weren't supposed to say that! What about hockey?

"Thanks Antti," she says hugging me. She then climbs down the tree and leaves.

End of Flashback

I guess she told Jasper the next day and he was supportive. That was the last time I ever saw Elsa. Last I heard she and Jasper had a baby boy that they named Liam. They also got married.

I just don't know what to do.

A/N and that's it for this chapter! Btw yes ik Kesler plays for the Ducks now but for this story he still plays for Vancouver. Btw the Hawks also traded Ben Smith to San Jose yesterday😭
