bell woke up the next morning, cocooned in her sheets and blankets. she sat up a bit, listening to the quiet squeak of her bed frame, and stretched. she let out a quiet groan as she felt her body wake up. reaching for her phone, she checked the time. wednesday, august 18. 9:42 am.

she looked out of the window beside her; it was slightly ajar, so the morning breeze danced around through her long white curtains. the sun was high in the sky, and a few birds could be heard somewhere in the distance.

swinging her legs round the side of her bed, she prodded at the scraggly mess of hair on her head. eventually, she settled on throwing it into a temporary messy bun.

she stood up on thin, wobbly legs, and adjusted her oversized dark blue hoodie. looking down, she realized it was a hoodie that mark had left during one of their many sleepovers. with a sleepy grin, she made her way down the creaky hallway.

"morning, bell!" silas called from his room as the girl passed by his door.

she stopped walking for a moment, and poked her head in the door. "morning kiddo. want some breakfast?"

silas looked up from his nintendo switch. "sure, is dad home?"

bell's face contorted as she thought for a moment. "not sure. let's check?"

silas nodded before standing up. "also, brush your hair, you look like a tumbleweed!" he laughed out, zooming past her and down the stairs.

bell groaned. "says you!" she scurried down after him and into the kitchen.

bell and silas walked into the kitchen to find their father at the table, reading the newspaper.

"morning, you two! what are we thinking for breakfast?" he stood, eyeing the two.

bell looked to silas, who looked to her.

"pancakes?" the young boy suggested.

bell lightly hit the back of his head with a small thwack. "i knew you'd say that."

silas just rolled his eyes. "shut up, tumbleweed."

their father pursed his lips. "stove is still broken. i'll be sure to get it fixed today, but in the mean time, how about you two head over to marks for some pancakes?"

they nodded and headed back to their rooms to get dressed. bell threw on some leggings, keeping the hoodie on. minimal effort, but comfortable nonetheless. she made sure to brush her hair, though.

bell walked up to silas' door, lightly rapping on the wood. when the door creaked open slightly, and a tuft of black curls appeared, bell spoke.

"ready to go?"

silas swung the door open and nodded. "yup! do you think mark would wanna play smash bros with me?" he looked over at his nintendo switch, which laid comfortably on the boys desk.

bell hummed. "i'm sure he will, grab it and let's roll."

and with that, they were out the door.

bell knocked on the door of mark's house, soon being greeted by his mother, lucille. her face lit up at the sight of the two.
