Author Note: Hello new readers, I saw new because this is my first story and the first chapter of the said first story.  I really hope you enjoy this fluffy self-discovery romance story. Having said that have a good day and read on. - SoaringEagle

I sprinted up the field, the souls of my cleats slapping the terf and the night air whipping against my skin. Reaching the goal I slowed, stuck my stick in the air, and yelled, "Bell! Here!"

Down close to the blue line of out of bounds Bell swiveled, snapping her stick out in my direction, sending the small yellow ball whizzing through the air. Three girls were instantly on me reaching for the ball, I jumped raising the stick and catching the ball in the net.

I landed on my feet and immediately began to cradle the ball making a cut straight towards the goal. The other team's defense ran towards me screaming, "DROP!"

I spun and switched my stick to my left hand, searching for the familiar number, and finally down close to the crease I caught sight of the blue number two. Smiling I made eye contact with Mackenzie, our team captain, and star player. She nodded at me and I flicked the ball to her.

Quicker than I could comprehend she snatched the ball out of the air, cradled twice, dodged the goalie, and sent the ball flying into the goal. The rest of the team on the sidelines and the fans in the bleachers broke into cheers as our team's attack ran over to Mackenzie, slapping her on the back and tapping sticks.

I made my way back to the thirty yard line and braced my hands on my knees. A net from a stick bopped me on the head and Mackenzie smacked me on my back, "Nice assist there Eve."

I gave Mackenzie and slight booty bump and grinned, "Nice goal captain."

Mackenzie just rolled her eyes as she jogged past me to the draw being set up in the middle of the field. Her golden blond hair swung from its high ponytail and her long legs flexed as she slowed.

Having your best friend be the most talented female lacrosse player on your team would be hard for some people. Having to hear everyone say how great she was and how she was a true star player.

It had bothered me at some point but now I knew my place on the team. I scored goals rarely and wasn't running up and down the field but I was the team's support, and I was good at it. I was always where I needed to be when I needed to be there.

The draw was played and Mackenzie picked the ball out of the air before passing it to one of the other mid-fielders, Bethany.  As the timer counted down to the end of the game the score gap between our team and the opponents widened so when the final buzzer rang we had won in a landslide victory of nineteen to seven.

Jogging down to our goal we all smacked the head of our goalie, Poppy. Clustering together we all pointed our sticks in the air. "Good game Fannel and thank you refs, on three," Mackenzie said before counting down, "One, two, three."

Collectively as a team we shouted the cheer and ran to the sidelines tapping the opposing team's sticks as they ran past. I threw my stick down by my duffle bag and grabbed my water taking a deep drink. "If you didn't get a goal before the game hustle and get one now!" Coach Mclean bellowed over our team's chatter and cheering.

Quickly eight players hustled off in the direction of the two orange goals, I stayed put, popping out my mouth guard and pulling the goggles from around my head.  I unlaced my cleats and slipped my feet out and into the soft cushions of my slides. Mackenzie plopped down beside me before yelling to the rest of the team, "You all are free to go we'll see at practice tomorrow at eight!"

Standing, I grabbed my bag and made my way off the field waiting at the edge as Mackenzie packed up her stuff and kissed her girlfriend, Bell, bye. Mackenzie jogged up to me and slug one sweaty arm around my shoulders. I shrugged her off and stuck my tongue out at her, "Ew get your arm sweat off of me!"

Mackenzie proceeded to smirk before she attempted to wipe her arm all over me, I squealed and ran off into the parking lot towards Mackenzie's small white car. I pulled open the unlocked passenger door and hopped inside, trying to lock the car before Mackenzie caught up to me. But she was quicker than me and was already in her seat, fastening her seatbelt.

She shot me a glare before we both burst out laughing. After a few minutes we calmed down before I snorted, "What were we even laughing about?"

"About how dumb you looked panicking about my arm sweat," Mackenzie shook her head sticking the key in the ignition.

This time I glared at her before my phone buzzed in my bag and I got distracted.  I pulled it out sliding aside the lock screen to read the new notification from Insta, David Lewis has requested to follow you.

I squinted at the screen slightly shocked by what I was reading there. David Lewis had requested to follow me, I'd been following him since the eighth grade but he was one of those jerks who didn't follow people back. But now out of nowhere, he had requested to follow me. Not wanting to look eager I ignored the request and started flipping through people's stories.

Mackenzie navigated the car through and out of the parking lot onto the main road. Self consciously I opened up the follow request again before closing it and opening my page. My bio was short with just,  Eve Marie Caths WSE she/her.

My pics were mostly of me and my friends along with some artsy photoshoots. After a few more moments of silent debate, I pressed the accept button and the message changed to the words, David Lewis has started following you.
