It's the last day before Christmas break. Normally that sounds amazing, but I have a feeling this Christmas won't be so merry.
Recently my parents got divorced, my dad hasn't been the same since. Every night we have been eating take out and he hasn't spoken much. I try to get him to speak but he just doesn't. I came up with a plan, I'm gonna host this year's Christmas party. My best friend, Nick agreed to help me set up. He's been my friend since we were in first grade. Ever since my parent's divorce, he has been around a lot more to make sure I'm ok. He doesn't believe me when I tell him I am, but the truth is I'm not. That's not the point tho. RING Ugh math class, there is only one good thing about this class, it's the only class I share with Nick. He always makes me die laughing. We once got banned from entering the classroom for a week because of it. I don't know what I would do without him.

A Few Hours Later

The final bell rings throughout the school, we all rush out of our chairs and out of the building. As usual, me and Nick head to the park near the school. We brush the snow off of the swings and we sit. "So how's Rose," Nick asks as he approaches the swing next to me.
"I don't really talk to her bro,"  I say as a reply

"But you have the biggest crush on her, why don't you ask her out"

"She doesn't like me"

"You don't know that"

"But I do"

"You have to try!!"

"There's no point!"

"Leo, I'm not gonna let you get sad over this girl when you won't even try talking to her"

"She's too good for me Nick".

His face changed from the happy Nick, I knew into a sad, new person. He looked at me in the eyes and that's when it happened. I felt sad, the world around me started to disappear. It was just me and Nick, he looked me in the eyes and a tear fell.

"You deserve better, Leo''.

I blinked, everything was back to normal. Nick was looking at the falling snow. It was as if he never spoke at all, maybe he didn't. I got up and looked at him,

"Let's go back to my place".

"Ok" he replied.

I closed the door.

"Hey, Nick set up borderlands while I get us something to eat".

"Fine, but you're using the crappy controller this time".

I walked to the kitchen, and as soon as I turned the corner, I saw my father standing there. Four words left his mouth

"How was your day".

I smiled and answered with

"It was good"

He handed me a plate with Two sandwiches and plenty of chips on it. He then smiled and walked away. Even though my father didn't speak much, I still knew he loved me and he loved when Nick was over because he knew Nick made me happy. I walked with the plate to my bedroom. As I touched the doorknob, my head instantly started hurting. It felt like someone was repeatedly shooting me. I heard screams. Fear, rejection, anger. Those three words echoing in my head. Suddenly the pain stopped. What is happening to me. I walk into my bedroom and put the plate onto my bed. I look at Nick and ask

"So how were classes"

I received a very short response

 "Fine"

 Silence......

 "I have an idea"

Nick said with a smile on his face.
