Chapter 5

"faster ladies, come on. My grandmother has more life in her, God rest her soul" Peggy commented as she watched the soldiers in front of her doing push ups "looking good Argent" she commented as she watched Adira with a small, proud smile on her face, glad to see a woman showing the boys up and proud that she was there to see the first female soldier. 

"UP!" Peggy exclaimed as the officials came around the corner. The soldiers all quickly stood up straight and then began to do star jumps (or jumping jacks, whatever you want to call them, in Australia we call them star jumps :)) "come on girls"

Meanwhile, Phillps and Erskine were talking about Rogers and Argent as they watched them train, Phillips was clearly judging Steve because of his size and Adira because of her gender, though he couldnt deny that she was as tough as, if not tougher, than all of the other soldiers in the squad, Erskin saw a great potential in the two of them, but Phillps didnt. Suddenly Phillips picked up two grenades and threw them into the middle of all of the soldiers "grenades" everyone ran except for Steve and Adira who eached jumper on top of a grenade each

Adira struggled not to cry as she thought about Bucky and their promise, now they weren't going to be moving into a small town, they weren't going to be having heaps of little kids running around, but she had to do it, she couldn't just let all of these people die.

"Get away, Get back" Steve called out while Adira closed her eyes, picturing the familiar ocean blue eyes she would never get to look into ever again. Everyone watched the pair in complete shock. They had just thrown themselves on grenades to sacrifice themselves for everyone elses safety.

Nothing happened and Steve and Adira slowly stood up realising that the Grenades were just dummy grenades and they werent going to go off "it was a dummy grenade" one of the officers called out and neither Steve nor Adira said anything as they looked around, their cheeks slightly red in embarassment

"all clear, back in formation" the officer called out to them all and all of the soldiers slowly began to walk back to the middle, none of them took their eyes of either of the two people who they had doubted the most up until now

"is this a test?" Steve asked as he looked over at Erskine and Phillips

"they're both still skinny" Phillips commented and shrugged his shoulders and walked away, though he was surprised and impressed with the two and the way they had acted, but his ego was far to big for him to admit it. Erskine smiled at them both and then gestured for them to go and join the others

"I thought I was never going to see him again Steve" Adira muttered out softly as she looked across at her best friend and he couldn't help but look at her sympathetically. They were interrupted by a knock on the door and then it opened and Erskine stuck his head into the room 

"may I?" Erskine asked, not wanting to intrude on the two friends and the two quickly nodded their heads and gestured for the man to join them

"cant sleep?" Erskine asked and walked over to the two of them

"I have got the gitters i guess" Steve answered and Erskine laughed, though Adira didnt say anything, the reason she couldnt sleep was because Bucky wasnt with her. It had only been a few days but he was basically all that she could think about now, she missed him and it sucked not being able to lay on his chest with his arms around her 

"me too" Erskine replied to Steves answer and decided not to ask the girl as he could see she clearly wasnt in the mood to talk about it. Adira stayed silent but sat cross-legged on her bed and her eyes switched between Steve and Erskine.
