'I'm drifting. Drifting through time, through space. I have no clue where I am. Am I dead? I don't know. I don't think I'm dead. But I can't be alive either. So where am I?

I see complete white. No noise, no sights. Nothing. Then, I hear something. A beeping. It's subtle. Just a backround noise. But it's getting louder. And louder. AND LOUDER.'.

I opened my eyes slowly. The first thing I could see was the pale white of a ceiling. Nearby I could hear a beeping. It wasn't distinguishable. I lifted my head and observed my surroundings. I was in a small bed. Next to me, were several machines: One that had wires coming out of it and going into my arm, a pulse reader and a heart moniter to name a few. I looked down at my hand, and found it covered in plaster. There were several tubes going in and out of it carrying different fluids.

I sat up,still thinking back on what had just happened. First, the attack. Then my dad appearing. And the torture. I tried not thinking about that. I looked around at the room I was in. It was a large, green room with a door and a small window, through which, I could see earth. There was a desk with a computer and some papers.

I was now completely upright and about to get out when, the door opened. In walked Right Hand Man, followed by my mother. She had a look of extreme guilt on her face. She looked at me, probably surprised I was up. Immediately, she ran forward and pulled me into her arms.

Ellie: Oh Hannah! Thank God you're alright. You've been out for way too long.

Hannah: I..I...

Ellie: No no. It's alright. I'm here. I'll make sure that never happens agai-

Hannah: Where's dad?

She froze. I backed up and saw her face had gone a sheet white. Behind her, the Right Hand Man went over to a get a glass of water and gave it to her. She drank while sitting on the bed, her face in utter shock. Once she had calmed down she put me back in the small bed.

Ellie: He's gone. He was lost years ago, remember?

Hannah: But what about the guy with the cybernetics? The one that saved us? Isn't that dad?

Ellie: That's not you're farther. That's just a random government soldier.

Hannah: If he was just a random government soldier, why did you call him by dad's name?

Ellie: Because I was confused. Anyways, you need rest.

She was putting the blanket over me. Or at least, she was attempting too. I wouldn't rest untill I had an answer.

Hannah: That guy is my dad. I know it!

Ellie: Hannah Rose Stickmin! You are going to stay in bed!

Hannah: Not untill I get an answer!

Ellie: HANNAH!

Her voice, went a high and screechy as her face filled with utter frustration.

Ellie: Henry's DEAD! That's what he is! DEAD! You may not like it, but he's DEAD! He's Dead he's dead he's..he's...

She collapsed onto the bed. I held her up as she let out several loud sobs. I held her on my shoulder as she sobbed out for some time. It sounded like she was letting every tear she had held in her life.

Ellie: I know it. But (sob) I don't want it to be true. (Sob).

I thought back to the day she had returned from a mission. The mission my dad had been lost in.

Flashback...

I ran up to the beaming room, excited to see my parents. The doors open and I run forward. I look up and see my mother. That's it. My farther is not there. He is nowhere to be seen. I think about what could have happened. My first thought my is that he is hiding.

I walk around the room, looking for a sign of him. I look by the dashboard. Nothing. Under the control panel. There's nothing. Behind the door? No, he's not there.

Then I look at my mother. Her eyes are empty. She appears to be holding something back. I don't know what, but I know she is holding it. I walk up to her and tug her leg to get her attention. It works. She picks me up and I open my mouth.

Ellie: Yes. What is it Hannah?

Hannah: Papa?

Ellie: He's...not here anymore. He's been.....lost...

Suddenly, my head is on her shoulder. I see the floor is moving. I have no clue what happened, what is happening, or what will happen. All I know is that I'm tired. I let out a yawn as we enter what, I can only presume is, the nursery.

I'm being put into a bed. The bars of the cot seem high and mighty. I hear a creaking as the gate closes. A soft blanket is placed over me just as, I find my teddy. Then, I hear my mother whisper into my ear.

Ellie: Goodnight Hannah.

There's movement. Then, hear a squeaking sound as the door closes. The room is completely black. I bat my eyes, before closing them. I think nothing of where my dad could be. I presume it's just another one of their plots to get me to sleep during my nap time. Unfortunately, it has worked. I can't wait for tomorrow where, I'll do something fun with my dad. Probably building blocks or, arts and crafts.

2 months later...

I sit in the small high chair, eating my beans on toast. My mother walks in. The first thing I notice is her eyes. They're red and puffy. Her face seems to be drooping. I see her walk behind me. There's a sound of whirring.

Then, I hear her walk back. When I see her, she has a mug of that coffee stuff I've seen adults talk about. I don't get why, most of the adults like the stuff. It looks to me like watery soil mixed and smells like a mix of sugar, nuts and flowers. It's weird. But hey. What do I know? It's just "one of those adult things." I've always told myself.

I finish my breakfast, just as my mother comes in. She picks me up and puts me down, giving me some clean clothes. I run off, excited to go over to Austin's place. It's always fun there.
