TO say Kali disliked overcrowded parties was an understatement, a mixture of intoxication and mild sweat engulfed her nostrils as she found herself lingering among total strangers, attempting to locate her best friend who had somewhat disappeared for what seemed to be a decade by now. Feeling awkward as she stood by herself, she made sure her body language remained confident as her eyes scanned the room; almost daring anyone to notice her internal discomfort. The musters of excitement around her indicated the countdown was approaching, which led her to mentally prepare for the cringeworthy PDA she would be observing within the next few minutes, completely naive to the fact that she, like the many strangers amongst her, would also be locking lips at midnight.

Diego couldn't help but find amusement in this particular occasion each year, various drunk individuals surrounded him, his friends being some of them. As the clock struck towards midnight he found himself disposing his fourth red cup, indicating that he, like the many strangers that occupied the space around him, was also drunk.

Glancing around the room, Diego observed the crowd of people amongst him, almost everyone seemed to be occupied in chatter or laughter, whilst some dismissed their patience and chatter altogether opting to connect their lips as an alternative form of interaction.

Almost everyone but her.

At first, he couldn't help but notice her stance, if "do not approach" was a posture, she was definitely successful in conveying such a message. His attention alternated from her stance and landed on her face. You see, pretty features weren't something new to Diego, but being captivated definitely was, heck it even confused him. Typically Diego would admire beauty and move on, yet his eyes struggled to gravitate elsewhere as if he was having a personal battle with them. Almost as if she felt his glance, she reciprocated his eye contact, unconsciously notifying Diego that in that very moment in time that he, like the strangers amongst him, would be certain who he would be connecting lips with in a few moments.

He hadn't initially planned to kiss anyone that night, even including the girls that had attempted to convince him otherwise with their overbearing seduction earlier in that night.

Diego's next few actions would confirm that he was most definitely drunk, he found his feet betraying his own morality as they took him on a spontaneous journey towards her, completely disregarding the consequences that could result because of what he was about to do.

Her gaze remained stern as he approached her, yet confusion was evident as her brows slightly furrowed.

9-

He finally stood before her, capturing her eyes with his own. The realisation of what he was about to do settled into her thoughts, yet not one inch of her body fought to scurry away from him.

8-

"So" he spoke as his tall figure towered over her small frame.

7-

"So?" She responded, almost uncertain as to what to say. Debating between whether he was crazy, extremely confident or a mxiture of both.

6-

"With all due respect, I would be a fool if I was to leave this party without kissing the most beautiful girl in this room"

5-

She froze, her heart bolting faster than the rate of the countdown that become fainter and fainter as her focus diverted on his words, and his words only.

4-

"So, May I?"

3-

She snapped out of her thoughts, finally gaining the courage to muster up her next words.

2-

"Yes" she responded

1-

And with that, he dominated her lips without hesitation

....

At that moment not even the distinct celebrations of the beginning of a New Year could divert them from the feeling that arose when their lips connected.
