Chapter 1

Ava Robinson above

Ava P.O.V

I wake up from my dream and looked around suddenly realizing I was in the woods. I stood and started to walk over to a small opening in the forest. In the middle I see a big oak tree with a bird on one of its many branches. The bird was beautiful it had deep red wings, a black body and shimmering aqua head. Suddenly I was distracted by an abrupt rustling nose in a nearby bush. I snap my head to the origin of the noise and I see two yellow eyes staring back at me. I couldn't take my eyes of the creature it was almost hypnotizing. Rapidly I was shaken from my deep stare when i hear a loud beeping noise. I turn around to she that it was coming from the same beautiful bird. The forest started to fade and so did the bird and the mysterious creature in the bush...

I slowly open my eyes and try to rub away the sleepiness. I quickly unlock my phone to see my mom had texted me, 'I am so excited to see u I have missed u!' I sigh and begin to swing my legs to the side of the bed and stand up. I look to my right and see Mae straightening her long blonde hair. I wonder why she is straightening it when we will be in the car all day. I mumble a 'good morning' and i shuffle out into the hallway to go take a shower. I take extra caution to pull the curtain around to cover me completely. I've always hated coed showers. I hurry to clean my body before someone walks in on me, and then change in to shorts and a tank top. Once I am dressed I scurry down the hall into our dorm to see Mae already packed and waiting for me on her bed.

"I called a cab it should be here any minute." she says as i close the door.

I hear her phone buzz, she swipes it to answer

"Hello, okay thank you we will be right down." she replies

"The taxi is here, why aren't you packed?" she asked with concern in her tone

"Sorry" I answer while opening my closet to quickly pack

I grab a bunch of t-shirts and shorts as Mae is getting things off the sink of mine and putting them in my suitcase. We run out of the dorm without a word and jump inside the cab. Suddenly I realize I didn't get to dry my hair so i pull my dark hair up in to a bun and put my headphones in.

Before I knew it we are pulling up to the airport and I pay for the cab. We run inside the airport and hurry to check out our bags. We go to our terminal and buy Starbucks to get our almost daily coffee in, which is taking its toll on my bank account. We both get our normal frappes and hurry to get on to the plane. We walk down the narrow isle and take our seats. I take my seat by the window, being earlier we argued about it in the car. Although I won by a quick game of rock paper scissor, dominating with three out of three. Sadly Mae had to sit down next to a burly man that smelled like cheese and somehow was already asleep. I push out the the loud snoring with my music. Soon enough I was being softly shaken from my sleep. Mae pulled an ear bud out of my ear.

"Ava get up we just landed in California." she said

I shifted and quickly pull my self out of my seat. I hit my head on the ceiling and let out a loud "fuck". Everyone's head turn to me and I whisper an "I'm sorry" and slowly sit back down in my seat. Clearly feeling that I was as red as a tomato. Once the isle was empty i was ushered out of my seat and in to the airport.

"Where is baggage claim?" I ask Mae

She simply replies with a shake of her head. We start to walk around and following people that look like they know where they are going. Then I see a big sign saying 'Baggage Claim' we both sigh with relief and walk to go pick up our bags. It takes twenty minutes before we get to my truck and ready to head to the mountains. We jump in my truck from high school and immediately turn on the radio. All the memories are flooded back to me once i hear the familiar tune of the Spice Girls. We both start laughing about the memories in the car and all the times we got lost because I was convinced it was a shortcut. As soon as I know it Mae is asleep and I hum along to the music that she turned down right before she dozed off.

Mae P.O.V
Suddenly I'm shaken from my deep slumber by the car swerving. I open my eyes to see Ava's truck almost hit a car in the near by lane. All the memories of my family's crash flash back to me '"Watch out dad your about to hit that van!" Michael yells as my father tries to stop the car. Michael blocks my view as we hit the van going through the red light.' All the memories of the horrific scene come back to me. I hadn't even noticed the tears that were running down my face and the sudden increase of my heartbeat. My vision started to blur and I could feel the car stopping.
