She's the heroine of this book and is a witch, one of the lowest species on the hierarchy. As she has been locked away from the outside world for her entire life, she's very naive and knows little about the crucial hierarchy. She's very curious and tries her best to learn about everything she can. She tends to have a positive outlook on life.

Ray is a pure-blood vampire from a distinguished family and is the 2nd highest-ranked species in the hierarchy (after mermaids). However, as there are currently no mermaids in attendance at the school, he considers himself to be the most important person at school and has the fan club to prove it. He is good at pretty much everything and is super arrogant about it but has a mean sense of humour and likes to make jokes out of other characters, particularly Shiba. As with all vampires, he loves "beautiful things" and so takes a keen interest in Bella.

Shiba is a werewolf and is one of the friendlier classmates of Bella, even if he tends to be stupid at times. He takes an immediate interest in the witch since he thinks she's "pretty". He's athletically gifted but struggles with school work, often becoming the subject of Ray's jokes. Despite this he's very prideful and detests anyone referring to him as a "dog". Being a werewolf, he has to disappear into the woods for a couple of days during the full moon as he has no control over his "dangerous" wolf side.

Nagi is an Invisible Man, one of the very lowest species on the hierarchy. As such, he tends to get bullied by others so throws all of his efforts into studying and can normally be found in the school library. He looks up to the school chairman whom is also an Invisible Man. While he's definitely friendly, Nagi tends to keep himself at a slight distance to others and can sometimes be found smiling sadly during group conversations.

Natsume is a mummy and is the most mysterious person Bella meets. He is very cold and tends to fight easily with others. He has a tendency to either sleep through class or skip it completely, preferring to spend his time in the disused 3rd Music Room playing the piano and singing. He has a cruel sense of humour but maybe there's more to him under those bandages?
