My thin skin turns thick

Every time I hear someone say all lives matter

Worse still, because I cringe when I hear that blue lives matter

Because unless they Blue Man Group has given birth there are no blue lives

Only cowards who kill unarmed black people

My brown skin boils

Every time I hear that another brother has been left lifeless in the streets

Killed for walking

Or talking

Maybe even sleeping

My aching skin crawls

Every time I hear that the murderer is protected by the same system that should reap justice

When killer cops excuses that can't hold water seem so airtight

Given a paid vacation for killing another one of us

My melanated skin weeps stinging tears

Every time I think of mothers and fathers broken hearts when they hear the news that their child has been killed

When I see children who have lost their parents

Soul mates that will never touch again

My collective skin soars like an eagle

When I see communities come together

All colors against a racist and corrupt police system

Standing together as one in the face of tyranny

My tired skin seeks rest

After 400 years of oppression that seems to have no end
