Norman and Ray played chess for the first time in 2 years. Emma rested her head on Norman's lap as she watched the two play on the bed.

For Ray and Emma, things always felt so dull without him around. The thought that Norman was gone and would never come back filled them with dread. The two loved each other very much, but without the third, things just weren't the same.

Now here they were, in a giant tree hideout feeling whole for the first time in what feels like ages. The clock struck midnight, Norman moving one of the pieces, confident the next move he made would be 'checkmate'. It would be their last game of the night, Emma already half asleep.

Ray could feel himself losing but he didn't want to accept it. He moved his piece, then looking up to see the other boy's expression. Norman gave him a soft smile, a cute one at that. It made Ray want to kiss him all over, but instead focused on getting upset as Norman moved his piece,

"Checkmate".

"Liar," Ray rolled his eyes, avoiding eye contact. Emma tiredly giggled at the moment.

"Alright then, should we go to bed now?" Norman asked the two.

"Yeah, Emma's already asleep,"

"How cute," Norman ran his fingers through her hair.

"Isn't she?"

"Yeah, and so are you, Ray,"
