It was Christmas Eve and I couldn't wait to reach home. Around me I could hear the passengers complaining about the 7 hour delay but we were in the sky and that's what mattered. I looked out of the window of the plane I was flying on and saw storm clouds in the distance but I enjoyed flying so I knew there was no reason to be afraid. However, I had a bad feeling but shook it of and went to sleep.

Boom!

I was jolted out of my seat and when I regained my bearings and looked out of the window I saw the plane was descending fast and the right wing was destroyed as well as the fuselage disintegrating fast. People and presents were tossed around the aircraft. I gripped the armrests of my seat and waited for the inevitable. The last I saw was the lush emerald-green colour of the rainforest beneath me as I fell down and passed out.

When I woke up, I realised I was alive and it was Christmas Day. I was still strapped in my seat. I saw bruises and cuts around my body and my left eye was swollen shut. I stumbled out of my seat and onto the wet floor and tried to call for help but my call was unanswered.

After a while, I heard the sound of a helicopter circling overhead and I was thrilled. That happiness slowly seeped away when I realised they couldn't see me through the thick canopy of trees which made me realise that I was utterly alone. I remembered that settlements were typically built along rivers so that meant if I stayed close to the river I would have a better chance to meet somebody and find help.

When nightfall appeared, I felt terribly cold. I felt alone and very frightened. Unable to sleep, I decided to sit and wait for dawn. The following morning, I slowly made my way down the river. On my journey, I saw snake dangling from tree, Jaguars and alligators grazing next to the river.

I found out that there were live maggots burrowing under my skin.

After an hour of walking, to my astonishment and delight, I saw a boat on the stretch of riverbank along with a path leading up a hill. At first, I thought to steal the boat, but I didn't want to be accused of stealing. Instead I went up the path earlier. Climbing up that hill took up all my strength and at this point I was tired and hungry. I saw a shack and inside there was a can of petrol and used it to kill the maggots. One by one I saw the maggots fall out onto the floor. This made me even more exhausted and I quickly fell asleep in the shack.

When I woke up, I heard voices approaching the shack so I struggled onto my feet and was overjoyed to see 3 men...
