The roads were packed with cars waiting to enter the car park for Jingle Ball. Justin’s bodyguard drove swiftly onto another road, quiet and only lit with small glowing street lights. Courtney looked out the window at the trees and traffic cones surrounding the road. She assumed this road lead to the VIP entry. The car came to a stop in front of a boom gate and a police officer walked to the driver’s window and held a torch into the car window.
“This area is for VIP access only. Can I please see your ID and your lanyards? The man handed over all the things needed to get them through. The police officer granted access and the boom gate rose. The car rolled down a few more metres and stopped outside a door and a small red carpet. The bodyguard greeted Courtney at her door and helped her out of the car.
Courtney walked down the red carpet, her heart racing as she did so. The bodyguard and herself walked inside and were pointed in the direction of Justin’s dressing room by one of the stage crew.
Courtney was ready to breathe heavily into a bag and pass out. This was so crazy! She was just directed to Justin’s dressing room! This surely didn’t happen to any other teenage girls? How was this real, she wondered.
The bodyguard stopped Courtney when they arrived at a door with a gold star. Courtney’s eyes scanned the star and her stomach filled with butterflies. It was Justin’s dressing room. The body guard knocked on the door and Justin answered looking annoyed. Courtney panicked, thinking she disturbed him, but once Justin’s eyes spotted that it was Courtney, his mood softened into a smile and opened the door wide for her to enter.
Courtney was relieved.
The bodyguard stayed outside the door and then once the door was closed; it was just her and her favourite singer. His arms wrapped around her in a friendly hug and they exchanged greetings.
“You look...wow...” Justin murmured, giving Courtney the once over.
Her cheeks reddened and she couldn’t respond. Not even a corny response such as, ‘you don’t look too bad yourself.’
Nothing. Just nothing.
Justin coughed awkwardly and chuckled realising she was nervous. He was used to girls being nervous around him, they either spoke too much or not at all. Justin decided to explain what was happening tonight to make her feel more comfortable.
“Okay so I purchased you a ticket in the front VIP row as well, so you can alternate between there and backstage. Although, I want you to be in the audience when I perform so I can see you,” he winked.
Courtney’s face reddened even more, the wink was overwhelming. “O-o-kay.”
“If you have any requests don’t be afraid to ask, alright?”
“Alright,” she smiled.
He was trying to make her comfortable and less nervous and she silently thanked him for that. Once her heart rate had become steadier she could finally relax and talk to him.
“When do you go on?”
“She speaks!” He grins as he slides on his squeaky clean supras.
“Of course I do,” she smiles. “You just...”
“Make you nervous? Scared?”
“Yeah, how did you-”
“Know?” Justin once again finishes her sentence. “You’re a fan, Courtney. I’m used to it.”
