Chapter Nine

   So I was on my own sitting on the front porch and praying that Dad would pretend that I wasn't there and just face Adrian squarely. But no! Instead he called me to properly introduce me to Adrian, I could feel my heart beating against my ribcage......."Stay in one place,heart! I muttered to myself.

   It was just an introduction, nothing to be nervous about. All I need to do is act neutral like I don't know him and we are good. So I stood up and walked up to Dad,I was really trying my best not to maintain eye contact with Adrian, I kept staring at the floor,sky or Dad.

    "Meet my daughter,Tania" Dad said as he introduced me to Adrian.

    "Hi Tania,nice to meet you.......I'm Adrian" Adrian said with a smile as he brought out his hand for a handshake.

    As I returned the handshake, I took a deep sigh of relief,well that was pretty much everything because he also acted like we were just meeting for the first time,I don't want Dad thinking I'm too forward,like I'm chattering and being friends with our neighbor so soon or something.

   But then the next word Adrian uttered blew it all.

    "You look really familiar, do you attend Asheville High? I think I've seen you there"

   "Uhm......well...... Uhm......" That's all that escaped from my mouth.

    "Yes,she goes to Asheville High......do you? Dad replied.

    " Yes,that's my school......we might even be in the same class, you know uhm......what class are you in? Adrian asked.

   OK he was definitely trying to annoy me or probably he was trying to get something which I didn't know, well I wasn't comfortable so I changed the conversation.

    "Dad,why don't you tell Adrian the fault of the car,he might be able to help"

   "Ohhh yess,I don't know what went wrong with the engine......it just wouldn't start" Dad said.

    Adrian knew what I did there so he stared at me with a grin and I just rolled my eyes like I didn't see that coming.

   "Well,have you tried putting water in the carburetor?" Adrian suggested.

    "Oh my! I haven't done that yet......(to Tania) Help me with some water,princess" Dad said.

   He didn't have to call me 'princess' in front of Adrian,it sounds like I'm some baby or Daddy's girl, well I am.... But still its our coded word,he shouldn't use it in front of just anyone,aarghh! Let me just get the water!

    So i brought the water then Dad tried what Adrian suggested and finally,the car worked! Dad insisted on taking Adrian to school just to repay him for the favor,after so much persistence from Adrian,he got in the car.

    As Dad drove us to school,I took quick peeks at Adrian,his mind seemed to be somewhere else like he was lost in his thoughts. I would have loved to ask what was wrong but it will only mean we were so close whereas we weren't and Dad could misquote everything.

    "Thanks for the ride,Mr Woods" Adrian said as we finally got to school.

   "Its my pleasure.........and thank you too,you two should have a great day at school" Dad said as he got into his car and drove off.

    As we both walked into school with our awesome super-late coming,Adrian looked at me and said "Nice thing you did there,avoiding me" then he hurried off.

   What the hell was that??!! I was avoiding him?! Should I have performed a live concert when I saw him or probably jump on his back and just stay there like a monkey. Aargh he's annoying! I stumped my feet as I walked to class mad at Adrian aka prettyannoyingangelface.

   It was lunchtime and I was leaving class for the cafeteria. Something felt weird,like everyone was talking about me,they kept staring at me and muttering something to one another,I wonder what's going on.

    As I walked,I sighted the red-haired guy I met on my first day,he seemed like he was in a hurry somewhere. He passed the corner that leads to a building that was not in use anymore in the school, I wanted to follow him and see where he was going but then I also wanted to ask Hailey what was going on with the students,cos Hailey knows practically 'everything' so I just turned around to the cafeteria.

    I met Hailey on our usual table,but today she had no headphones on. I guess its because she has someone to talk to at lunch now. But she was really fun to be with and a pretty interesting person, her skin and hair color were really unique,she was close to been an albino because of her white complexion but she wasn't.

   She knows everyone's history in the school but never really talked about her history. The only thing I know about her was she lived with her aunt,I don't know about her parents,she never talked about them.

    "So have you heard the news?" Hailey asked.

   "No,tell me"

  "Well,everyone's talking about it....... You came to school with Adrian Guilano today and you guys were really late"

   "Okayy?? How's that news?"

  "Cos his girlfriend heard and now you are on her bad side"

   "His girlfriend? He doesn't have a girlfriend..... He told me himself"

   "Well that was a big fat lie and I don't know why he had to lie,cos everyone knows and sooner you were gonna know and you already do"

   What was this feeling? This feeling of pain and betrayal? This feeling of thinking you were special to someone but you were taken for a fool,This feeling of hatred and hurt. I still don't get it.....why did Adrian have to lie to me?
