Ok hi. Um... I've started watching Grey's Anatomy... anyway... I hope you enjoy it. It's essentially my previous one shot, There for You, but a bit different. Also, they're alive in this one.
Warnings: hospitals, car crashes, anxiety attacks, and language
Alex didn't see this coming. He really couldn't have seen it coming. Julie was driving him to the hospital. He was lying in the backseat, his head in Luke's lap, sobbing uncontrollably and shaking. Luke was raking his fingers through Alex's hair, trying to calm him down. And before you ask, no, he's not the one in trouble in this situation. Willie was in a car crash and Alex was scared shitless. "He's going to be okay, Alex." His friends kept telling him. Reggie, who was in the passenger seat, was keeping his mouth shut after Alex yelled at him telling him to shut up. It wasn't really Alex. It was because he was scared and sad. His anxiety keeping him from staying calm.
"I'm sorry, Reg." Alex sobbed out when Reggie looked towards the backseat.
"Shhh. It's okay." Reggie said, rubbing Alex's leg.
Julie pulled into the parking lot of the hospital and parked the car.
"Alright, Lex. Time to go inside." Luke said softly, kissing Alex's head.
Alex nodded slowly and sat up. He wiped the tears from his face with his hoodie sleeve as Luke opened the door and they got out of the car. The group shared a hug before going inside. Alex and Luke walked up to the front desk as Reggie and Julie sat in the waiting area.
Luke cleared his throat. "We're here for William Covington."
"Are you his family?" The attendant at the desk asked.
"Um... not biologically. This is his boyfriend." Luke pointed to Alex who was holding Luke's hand in a death grip.
"Right... he's in room three-o-two. The doctor is with him at the moment so you guys can wait outside his room or in the waiting area."
"Is he gonna be okay?" Alex quickly asked before Luke could pull him towards the elevator.
"I'm sorry. I don't know. I don't have anything on here about that."
Alex nodded slowly and they went to get Julie and Reggie before heading to the elevator.
They headed to the third floor where Willie was and sat outside his room and waited. The doctor came out shortly after and looked at the four and then directly at Alex.
"Are you Alex?" He asked.
Alex scrambled out of his seat and stood up, still shaking. He nodded.
"William has been asking for you. He's only got a concussion, a few broken ribs, a broken leg, and he needed some stitches. He's resting now but you can still go in and see him."
Alex nodded again. "Thanks."
The doctor nodded and headed down the hallway. Alex looked towards his friends.
"Go on, Lex. We'll be right here." Julie said, leaning onto Luke's shoulder.
Alex walked into the hospital room. Willie was laying there, asleep. There were machines beeping and Alex knew that Willie was going to be okay but shit, hospitals scared Alex so much. He pulled up a chair next to the bed.
"God, Wils. I- why. I- I should have been there," at this point, tears were flowing from Alex's eyes. "Why did this have to happen. My anxiety and my heart just can't handle all this. You're always one to break the rules and never get caught or hurt and this time... the time it wasn't your fault, you actually get hurt. I can't do this," Alex rubbed his face with his hands and then took Willie's hand in his, kissing the back of it. "I- I love you too much for you to be so close to death."
Willie started to stir and Alex's eyes flicked up to his face. Willie's eyes slowly fluttered open.
"Hey, hotdog," Willie said, his voice a little raspy. "You okay?"
Alex rolled his eyes. "Am I okay? Are you okay? You were in a car crash for fuck's sake."
Willie smiled a little. "So... you love me?"
"Fuck you for listening in on my conversation. I thought you were unconscious," Alex very gently smacked Willie's arm. "But of course I fucking love you, you idiot." Alex softly smiled.
Willie slowly slid over in the bed and patted the area next to him, motioning for Alex to lay there.
Alex shook his head. "I don't wanna cause you any more pain."
"I wouldn't be asking you to if I didn't want you to and you not laying here is causing me pain." Willie pouted.
Alex rolled his eyes and very gently laid down next to his boyfriend. He snuggled in as best he could, trying to keep from hurting Willie. He laid his head on top of his boyfriend's and kissed his temple.
"I love you, too, ya know," Willie said. "Didn't think we'd confess this kinda thing in a hospital but here we are."
Alex let out a laugh. It's Willie's favorite sound. So carefree and genuinely happy. Although it was slightly laced with worry and anxiety, it was happy. "Yeah." Alex sighed.
"Hey. I'm gonna be okay. Okay? I might need a little TLC and I can't skate but I'll be okay."
Alex nodded, a tear slipping down his cheek.
Willie slid over a smidge (if that was even possible) and wiped the tear falling from Alex's eye. "What's going on in that head of yours?"
"Nothing," Alex took a deep breath. "You just scared me. You always worry me with all those skateboard tricks you do and stuff and then this time it wasn't even your fault for getting hurt. I don't know. I just panic, you know. Never think of the good possibilities. My brain just goes straight to the fact that you could die or could already be dead and I didn't even get to say "I love you." It scares me so much and I'm not telling you to give up skating because that's a part of you just like drumming is to me. I just... I love you so much. I don't want what we have to be taken away."
Willie nodded his head and let out a small smile. "I know and I'm sorry that your brain betrays you like that. I love you and it's going to be okay. I'm going to try my hardest not to get hurt and to stay out of trouble. I'm going to try my hardest to be there for you when you need it because you're always there for me."
Alex nodded.
"Now can we please change the topic? I'm already in enough physical pain, I don't like this emotional pain." Willie asked.
Alex laughed.

A few days later, Willie was released from the hospital. Alex was going to stay with him until he was better and make sure Willie was okay.
"Alex, baby, you need to take a break. You've been going all day. I'm seriously fine. Please come lay down."
"But I can't find my hoodie. It's freezing."
"One, I am wearing your hoodie, and two, if you would come lay down, under the covers, you might feel warmer. Please?"
Alex turned around from where he was in the closet and walked over to his boyfriend. He got into bed next to him and Willie snuggled in close to Alex.
"Hoodie thief." He said.
"But I'm your hoodie thief." Willie gave Alex a kiss.
"Because that suddenly makes it all the more better."
Willie started to pout.
"Fuck you."
"Love you, too."
