I've always loved the rain; the tender feeling I got every time a rain drop landed on my numb shoulders. The fact that it could be so loud yet quiet at the same time. The smell, so fresh. The puddles always reflected my small face.
My face.
It was a blessing yet a curse. You see, I'm not a normal 16 year old. I'm short, have a perfect face, perfect body, perfect family, perfect grades, and a perfect job.
Or at least the girl I wish I was did. She never had to worry about boys not liking her or not pleasing her family. Her life was everything I wish mine could be. To bad she didn't exist. She probably could've given me some great life advice.
I laughed as I thought about her. In my mind, this girl with the perfect life's name was Britney. She had cool friends. I have one as well. Only one.
Alex.
Alex and I have been friends since diapers. He practically lived at my house and was a part of my broken family (not that he minded).
"He's okay" Britney says.
"So what if he's not perfect." I hissed back at the imaginary girl.
Ding dong
He's here. Finally.
"He's not worth it. They're other people out there. Better then him. Please, has he ever bought you a gift?" Britney whispered
I ignored her. That's not what mattered to me. What did matter to me was why he was here. It's been two years since last saw Alex.
He had run away from home after his parents got a divorce and tried to make him choose who he wanted to stay with between the two of them. That was his way of choosing neither considering he didn't like either of them.
I walked towards the front door of my parents empty apartment.
I opened the door to see Alex's bright smile light up the dark room.
