"Mom?" Henry stood at the side of Regina's bed and waited for a response. He saw Emma but didn't want to disturb her. He was scared about both of them, but he needed reassurance from his mother.
"Hey sweetheart. Um can you go get me a glass of water?"
"Yeah I'll be back." Henry left the room and Regina called Mary Margaret in. She wasn't very fond of Regina and vise versa, but Emma and her were friends. Regina needed to talk to her to see if Emma told her anything.
"Hey Mary Margaret. Um did Emma ever tell you about her ...UH medical problem?" She didn't want to tell Mary Margaret that Emma had cancer if Emma never comforted her.
"Um cancer? Yeah I had to help her with showers all the time. Uh she never told you? She could barely lift her arms when she came here. I think she just had surgery before Henry came and got her. She was very sore."
"How did I never know? Was I just oblivious? What's going on?" Regina was mad, angry, and she was also very upset. Regina was scared that she could have hurt the blonde. She hugged her almost every night. Did it hurt her? Was she okay?
"It's okay Regina. She's feeling better. She told me about a week and a half ago."
"Well she stopped treatment apparently. They are putting her back on her meds and doing extra radiation so that it doesn't come back. I never knew. I feel terrible." Regina had teary eyes and was about to let them loose when..
"Hey." Emma said in a groggy voice. The one you use when you just wake up.
"Hey baby. Are you okay? Are you feeling better?" Regina was so worried that she could have hurt the poor girl that's already hurting. She didn't want to push Emma away. Not after Emma has been running away her whole life.
"I'm fine, Regina. Can you just ask for more pain meds for me, please."
"Yeah what's hurting?"
"Regina. Meds. Now." Emma was different, but it might just be the pain talking. Regina was happy to do anything for her.
"Okay." Regina called the doctor because it was hard for Emma to move. She asked for pain medication for Emma. Once she was done with the call Emma spoke.
"Regina I'm sorry. Everywhere hurts like a bitch. My chest hurts the worst. I have big tissue damage...." Emma looked to Mary Margret, "and it hurts."
"It's okay. He's coming. Just relax sweetheart."
By the time the doctor left, after giving Emma a big dose of pain medication, Henry came back.
"Here's your water, mom. I got Emma some too."
"Thank you."
"No problem. Hey Emma. You feeling any better?"
"Um yeah kid. I'm doing okay. I'm a little tired so I think I'm going to sleep."
Emma started to fall asleep and Mary Margret stepped up to Regina.
"Are you okay? I'm going to leave. I don't want to disrupt her. I'll take Henry and we will go have dinner. I might bring him back if he feels up to it. I think he has homework so? Anyways night Regina. I hope you both feel better."
"Thank you." Regina directed her eyes to Henry. "Be good for Mrs. Blanchard and do your homework."
"Okay mom. Bye. Tell Emma I said bye."
"Okay goodnight dear."
"Night." And then they left. Regina was left alone in darkness with Emma. Regina could tell Emma was still awake a little, bit on the verge of darkness. Regina didn't push Emma to talk to her. She just waited. And waited. And waited.
