A.J.’s POV:

“I’m sorry, I’m just not really good at this. Maybe I shouldn’t even play.” I grimaced as I looked up at Ashton sitting across from me on his bed. It was now Friday night, school was out for the weekend, and I was over at his house for my ‘guitar lesson,’ and it was going terribly.

“No no, you just need practice A.J. Here, you need to move your pointer finger to your third fret. No, to your right. There you go. Now strum down twice and up once and just keep repeating that.”

I did as he said, but it still didn’t sound anywhere near as good as when he played it. I had been over at his house a lot these past few days, and he had played all his instruments for me. While he was awesome at the guitar and piano, neither really compared to his skill when he sat behind his drum kit. It was amazing to watch and listen to him play the drums.

It just came natural to him. It was like his drum sticks were continuations of his arms, and the rhythms and beats he played out came from somewhere inside of him. If I was honest, I could have sat on his bed and listened to him play for hours.

But that was not possible as we both had other homework to be doing beside our writing assignment. And then there was my terrible guitar playing. This was only the second lesson I had with Ashton so far, but I was already ready to give it up.

I sighed with frustration as my playing sounded more like nails on a chalkboard than fingers on a guitar. I made a face at Ashton trying to tell him I suck, but he just laughed.

“You got it, it’s just a lot of practice and muscle memory from here. And from there you will be able to hear yourself play and it will be a piece of cake.” He smiled at me as he strummed a few random cords together that sounded like a new hook for a song.

I rolled my eyes at him and nudged his leg with my foot. “Show off” I muttered.

“I’m sorry, what was that?” he said as he set his guitar down beside his bed.

“I said you’re a show off” I looked him dead in the face and he gave me a wicked grin in return.

He stood up and took my guitar from me and set it in its case on the floor in the middle of his room. Then he walked back and stood in front of me still seated on the edge of his bed and smirk down at me.

“It’s not polite to call people names you know” he cocked an eyebrow at me and I just smiled back at him.

"Well what are you gonna do about it.” I wrinkled my nose and laughed at him, but my laugh turned into a scream as Ashton grabbed both of my feet and pushed them over my head until I was in a folded position laying on my back on his bed.

Then I felt my body leave the bed completely as he wrapped his arms around my entire body and moved me to the center of the bed. “Surrender and apologize Oklahoma!”

I was slightly squished under my own legs, so my reply came out a little breathless as I answered “Never!”

“I guess you are going to have to stay as my prisoner then.” He chuckled a little and let go of my body so I could put my legs down. Before I could sit up, however, he swung his leg over my body and straddled my waist and pinned my hands down on either side of my head.
