A cold breeze rushes down your spine as a bright glare covers your closed eyes. A repetition of loud and irritating beeps engulfs your ears until you understand what is going on. You open your eyes. Just as you thought, it was your alarm telling you it was time for school. Any day with school was a dreadful one for the typical high schooler. This was no exception for you as well. Tired and unmotivated, you crawl out of bed and do your morning routine before heading to school. You are sure to stay quiet as you're leaving to avoid waking your parents. Leaving the comfort of your own home, you take your first step outside.
You leave your apartment
Still drowsy and walking to school, you regret staying up until 2:00 a.m. watching romance anime. "I had nothing better to do, so why not, I thought". Was this true though? Did you have nothing better to do? Perhaps watching romance shows is just your way of filling the empty void of longing for a relationship. Typically in a relationship, the guy is supposed to make the moves. However, you don't believe you're able to do that. You can hardly look a girl in the eyes without getting embarrassed. You're a lost cause. 16 years of your life, just to be moping about not being in a relationship. "I'll be in a relationship in no time! There's no way that I'd still be single in university right?" is what you constantly tell yourself to feel more reassured. However, lying to yourself is impossible, and the façade of being satisfied with your current state was only effective on those around you. You know the truth. You were destined to be single for the rest of your life. Without being more outgoing, it isn't possible to get into a relationship. You prefer the timid type, so having a girl ask you out was never an option. You truly are doomed. Destined to die alone and unloved.
You are a few minutes away from the school, but it is within your view
???: Yo Y/N, how's it going?
*Being so lost in your thoughts, you don't notice the person calling at you*
???: Hey! Y/N, are you trying to ignore me or something?
*You look up, snapping out of your trance like state*
Y/N: Oh, Fuutarou.
Fuutarou: Y/N, what took you so long to respond? Did something happen?
You and Fuutarou have known each other since you were both 6. He was one of your only friends growing up. Fortunate for you, he goes to the same school as you, so you're not a total loner. You and Fuutarou have always been friends and rivals. Comparing who did better on the math test, who could run faster, and who was taller. Not much has changed. He's still smarter than you, and you're still faster than him. That is, only by a little bit.
Y/N: Sorry, Fuutarou, I was just lost in my thoughts.
Fuutarou: Hm, alright. Well, we best be getting to class. What classes do you have again? I forgot.
Y/N: In order, I have Art, Math, Japanese, Lunch Break, Science, History, and English.
Fuutarou: Ah, you're right. Now I remember. I only remembered Math and Science since those are the only classes we have together. I'm still going to keep my spot as the #1 student in this school though. I can't let you beat me, so you're still going to be #2.
Y/N: Haha, just like old times, huh?
Fuutarou: Yup, you'll always be my runner-up.
*First Bell Rings*
Fuutarou: Oh shoot, we better hurry, it's already 8:25.
Y/N: Yeah, I'll see you later Fuutarou.
