Kats POV
As I get into school I have people gathering around my locker. As I ask what's going on everyone moves out of the way. I look into my locker and I have a whole bunch of gifts in there. Wow word spreads fast I think to myself.

When I get into homeroom all my teachers give me the sympathy look. In my mind I'm thinking I came to school to get it off my mind not to get sympathy.

Later I realized that Hayes was in my art class so I sat next to him. Our assignment today was paint someone who is your hero. I immediately think of my father. I start painting him with me in his arms as a baby. Just like the picture I keep in my wallet.

As I'm painting I realized I'm crying. i run out the class thinking I shouldn't came today. I'm followed by Hayes.

"Hey you okay?"
"Not really..."
"Maybe we can exempt you from this project." He says
"No I want to take it home and put it on the wall."
"Okay well, I'm here if you need anything."
"Thank you Hayes."

As we go back in I finish the painting and on the bottom I put:
RIP daddy, his birthdate and his death date.

*Lunch time*
I see Tori... She hasn't speakin to me all day. And right when I need her the most she isn't here. I shake it off and sit with Nash and Hayes again.

It was pretty quiet no one talked to me and we didn't have a conversation. I get up and I'm called to the office to leave.

When I get into the office mom is sitting there.
"What's the matter?"
"I don't think you should've came today."
"Why? It's helping me a lot with not being at home around the pictures and what not."
"But honey your heart is sensitive."
"No, mom I don't wanna go home I don't wanna grieve."
"Honey you're gonna have to grieve. he was your father."

I walk away hurt even though I wanted her I just needed me time.

*Funeral day*
It's been 4 days and still Tori hasn't talked to me. But Hayes has been here everyday. I've been spending a lot of time with Hayes and I'm really starting to like him like a lot a lot even though it's been a week.

When I get to the funeral home it is packed. I didn't expect this many people but I guess I forgot he was in the military and the community usually comes and shows their support for their country for it.

I walk in and I see Hayes. Obviously I will ask Hayes to sit next to me.

During the service Hayes holds my hand the whole time. He's really a great person.

The last time I would ever see my dad I gave him a kiss and told him I'll take care of mom and the house. And then I walk away. As I walk away I notice Hayes isn't behind me, I turn around and he's talking and he's what he says:
"Sir, I know I haven't met you but thank you for serving our country. you have a great daughter and I will take care of her until I die."

I sat tearing up more and I see him crying.
"Awe Hayes don't cry."
"It's just I wanted to meet him and tell him thank you for serving"
As I walk away I solute to my father as I did when I was little.

*flashback*
I was dressed in my army princess dress marching around. Daddy got me for a birthday present.
"Now do you wanna be a real soldier?"
"Yes daddy!"
"Now one thing is when you answer you say 'sir yes sir' alright?"
"Yes- I mean sir yes sir"
"Good girl. Now time to solute"
*solute*

*end of flashback*
