Chapter 1: Time To Start Everything Over Again
Gabriel’s POV
“Gabriel! Ryan! Get up! It’s your first day of school! You wouldn’t want to be late now, would you?” I heard my mom shout up…
She had no idea how much I wanted to be late.
I pretended not to hear her and tried to get back to my dream. I was back in my old school with all my friends in my old house with my girl friend. Or should I say ex- girl friend. When I told her I was moving, she dumped me faster than a child pushes their vegetables at dinner away. I was just back to my half-awake-half-asleep state when I was rudely awoken by my brother.
“Get up, Gabe,” he said as he threw something at my head. A pillow, maybe? “First day of school, honey! Wouldn’t want to be late or anything.” He said in probably the best mocking voice of my mother he has done in years. He got her enthusiasm and everything.
“Oh, yes. First day of school…my favorite day of all times.”
“Well, it isn’t mom and dad’s fault that Josh decided to go to college 3 hours away, by plane, might I add, and we just HAD to follow him there.” Ryan replied.
“Poor Josh, he is never going to get away from his screwed up family.”
“Boys,” we heard Mom shout, “downstairs, NOW.”
“Coming.” We said in unison.
When we got downstairs, my dad and sister, Jessie, were already sitting at the table eating breakfast. What was that on our plates? Is that even edible? Got to love Mom and her absolutely terrible cooking.
“Want some eggs, boys?”
“Yeah, um no thanks, Mom. I’ll just have some cereal.” I replied. I could see the relief on Ryan’s face when he realized we were thinking the exact same thing. Twin telepathy; curse at times but sometimes a life saver when it comes to certain things.
“What’s that smell?” Jessie said.
“Jessie!” Mom and Dad said at the same time.
“Don’t worry, its me…I just need to shower.” Ryan said.
“Ryan James, I told you to take a shower last night,” Mom said, “why didn’t you like your brother?”
“I was too tired.”
Yea, right…he was talking to Hayley on the phone all night. Hayley is his girl friend who he thinks is never going to cheat on him while he’s 3 hours away, but there is a reason she is considered the slut of our grade.
I hear his phone go off. Eminem’s “Real Slim Shady”…uncensored. Mom picks the phone up.
“Go take a shower, then I’ll give the phone back.”
“Mom!!!!”
Never argue with my mother…
“1…2…”
“Ok, ok, I’m going. You should be a prison guard instead of a kindergarten teacher.” Ok…I have to admit, that was a good one. He is so lucky Mom didn’t hear that one or his phone would have been swimming with the fishes. No, really, she would have thrown it in our fish tank. Haha you thought I was just kidding.
I head upstairs to my room, and from down the hall I can smell the stench of about 6 or 7 different colognes mixed together. Coming from my room, of course.
“Ryan! What the hell are you doing?” I yelled as I walking in, almost suffocating from the horrible smell.
“I don’t know which one I should wear, so I’m trying them all on.” My brother was standing in the middle of the room with no shirt on and only one shoe on.
“You are a mess. You know you need to wear a shirt, right?”
“Shut up, Gabe,” he snapped back, “You know you need to not be a nerd right?” He started laughing at his own joke. Was it really that funny? I didn’t get it. I just rolled my eyes and walked away. Hair? Eh, it will do. Teeth? Brushed. Shirt? Buttoned up. Belt? Crap, forgot my belt. I run out and it looks like our dresser had the stomach virus and spit everything out. I jump through the mess and go to the belt drawer. Nothing. What the…
“Ryan! Where are all my belts?!”
“They’re mine, too,” he shouts from down the hall, “and I have them in here.” He walks in wear a belt. A black belt. MY black belt. My LUCKY black belt.
“Take…it…off…now.” I say through gritted teeth.
“Or what? Are you gonna punch me? Of course you aren’t. You do remember what happened last time, don’t you? In case you don’t, let me refresh you. You got your ass kicked and served to you on a platter. Don’t mess with me, Gabe.” I can’t argue with him. He beat my ass so bad I had a black and blue eye for 2 weeks. I don’t really wanna show up on my first day like that. Little did I know, I wouldn’t walk into school like that, but I would walk out like that.
“Ok, fine. I won’t punch you, Ryan. I’ll be mature about it.” He gave me this cocky smile that he gives anyone when he knows he has won an argument. Not this time, jackass. I walk out of the room and when he has his back turned, I run at him and tackle him to the floor.
“Gabriel! What the hell? Get off of me!” He yells under all my weight. All 105 pounds of it.
“You aren’t going to win this time, Ry.” I said, trying to hold him down. I really should have joined football or wrestleing like Ryan did. I could feel that he was about to lift me up and throw me like I was a feather. I never thought I’d say this, but thank God it was time to get on the bus.
