Chapter 41

Ivy’s POV

Darkness.

I groaned as I pushed myself up off the floor. Where am I?

Looking around, I realized I was in a very dark room with a single candle burning in one corner. The light from the candle illuminated the room slightly, casting dancing shadows along the walls and ceiling.

I felt something sticky on my fingers.

Looking down, I held my hands up to try and see what was on me, but it was too dark. I put my hands on the floor to push myself up when I stopped.

The floor was warm and sticky too.

I gasped as I slowly withdrew my hands, not sure what I had just touched.

Looking at the dark puddle on the floor in front of me, I had a sudden pit in my stomach. Leaning closer, I felt bile rise in my throat as my eyes widened.

Blood.

Slowly, my eyes traveled from the blood to a figure a little ways ahead of me. A person.

I slowly stood as I approached the figure. “Hello?” I whispered with a shaky voice. “Are you oka-“ I stopped mid sentence as I walked around to see the person in front of me. The light from the candle bounced across the figures face and my blood went cold.

Letting out the loudest scream I have ever screamed, I stumbled backwards as I took in what was in front of me.

Chris lay in a pool of blood, his eyes open and staring off into space, his mouth agap. And lying in his grasp, pointed at his forehead lay the gun.

My eyes flew open as I bolted up right. My chest was heaving and I was drenched in sweat.

I felt something touch my back and I screamed, leaping away from the touch, my heart flying.

“V?!” Cole asked, panicked.

I was vaguely aware of stirring next to me before the room lit up. Blinking in the light, I took in my surroundings. I was in Cole’s room, in his bed. The baseball game. Cole’s leg. It all came flooding back to me.

“V, are you okay?” Cole asked me worriedly.

I took a deep breath and pulled my knees to my chest as I tried to slow my heart. I wiped my eyes with my hands as I realized I had silent tears rolling down my cheeks.

“Y-yeah, I’m fine. Just a nightmare,” I whispered, my voice cracking on the last word.

Cole was silent. I glanced over at him to see his eyes burning with rage. He knew who my dream was about. It’s what all my dreams were about.

I felt my breath hitch slightly as images flooded back in my mind. His far off gaze. The blood.

 The gun.

I felt a sob hitch in my throat as I covered my face with my hands, willing the memories to go away. Rocking back and forth, I heard the click of the light and I was once again thrown into darkness.
