"Abigail Rene Turner!" my mom called. "Get down here right now! You have school today! "Coming!" I yelled. Groaning, I rolled off of my bed and stretched my stiff arms and legs. I threw on a pair of jeans and a faded blue t-shirt and stumbled downstairs. As soon as I stepped out of my bedroom, the sweet aroma of French toast filled my nose. "Ahh" I said, breathing in deeply. "What's the special occasion?" I heard heavy footsteps clomp down the stairs and a deep voice answered "because it's the first day of school, silly! "Oh!" I exclaimed. "Right, Dad." I sat down at the table and piled some French toast onto my plate. "Abigail, before you start stuffing your face, go feed Bailey" my mom told me. "Alright" I sighed, wanting to stuff my face BEFORE, not after I fed Bailey. I got up from my seat and walked over to the sink, where I knew Bailey would be waiting. A smile crossed my face as soon as I saw my 6 year old cocker spaniel, Bailey is the cutest dog you'll ever see. At the moment she was wagging her tail and looking expectantly up at me. Eager to please my canine companion, I filled Bailey's bowl with her dog food and set it down beside her. The change in my dog's behavior was immediate. Bailey bent down and gobbled up the food I set in front of her. I laughed, and once my parents saw what I was looking at, they started laughing, too. I glanced at the clock on the kitchen wall and gasped. "Oh my gosh! It's 7:30! I missed the bus! "Abby, wait!" My father called as I was rushing out the door. "I'll drive you to school! "Wait- really, Dad?" I asked, surprised. "Of course, sweetie! I'll do anything for your well being, and right now, you need to eat some of your mother's French toast!" That statement earned the second family laugh of the day. I finished my breakfast, brushed my teeth, and climbed into my dad's maroon minivan. Yep, that's right. My dad has a minivan. We pulled into the school parking lot after a 20 minute drive and I stepped out of the car. I walked from where my dad had parked to the front of Merriweather Middle School. Ah, the first day of my last year in this place. And so began my eighth grade year.
