Marcy looked through the books at Barnes and Nobles. She was looking for a particular book. One she didn't know the name of. She knew nothing about this book because she'd never heard of it and she didn't know what it was about. But she knew she'd know it when she found it.
She strolled along shelves leisurely. She was looking for a book for Mike's eighteenth birthday the next day. She'd gotten him a gift basket of sorts and the last thing she wanted to put in was a good book.
So far it was filled with beer, candy, an album record, a bottle of aged scotch, a film, a Rolex and a black calligraphy pen set. She hoped he'd like it.
Diaz ambled along behind her as she was without anyone else and it was normal business hours.
Unfortunately for her, she kept finding books she'd like (which Diaz was holding). She blew out a breath and went to a different section. It read poetry and she felt like slapping herself. Of course Mike would want a book of poetry!
She started scouring the section for something that he'd love.
As she was bent over but still moving, she knocked heads with someone. "Ow!" Both exclaimed.
Marcy shot up and rubbed her sore cranium. "Ah! My bad. I wasn't looking where I was going."
"It's okay." The girl rubbed her head, too. "I wasn't looking either."
Marcy shook her head and blinked exaggeratedly to remove the stars from her gaze. She blew out a breath and looked at the girl in front of her.
For her part, the girl looked back. And blushed.
Diaz raised a brow. "Are you okay?"
"I am now." Marcy eyeballed the girl. She was a tad bit taller than her, brown eyed, redheaded and with slight curves. "Are you okay?"
The redhead blushed brighter. "I am. Thank you."
"You're welcome."
The girls stared at each other until the brown eyed teen felt herself flushing again. "Uh... are you looking for something in particular?"
"Do you work here?"
"No. I just come in a lot."
"So do I. I've never seen you here before."
She's a reader?! "I'm here a lot of Saturdays and afterschool."
Marcy usually came in at night. "Makes sense. If you're here a lot, maybe you can help me."
The girl smiled.
Marcy smiled back, her dimples making an appearance.
"What are you looking for?"
"A book of poetry that'll drive you insane."
ATUA
Karen sat her parents down. "I've got something to tell you."
Brooke began crying. "Now that you've established your business, you want to move out!"
Calvin patted her hand. "I'm sure that's not it, dear."
"It's not." Karen eyed her dramatic mother.
"It's not?" Brooke sniffled. "Then why'd you scare me like that?!"
Karen gave her a look. "Stop it, Momma."
Brooke grumped.
Calvin shook his head. "What is your news, Lotus?"
