When they realised I was 'out cold' they lifted me into a more caring position and continued waking. I stayed limp and continued my hopefully believable act, soon all the light I could see through my closed eyes vanished and became dark. We were somewhere different and I hopefully was somewhere out of harm, I may have been pretending to be limp and out of it but I was really alert and awake, aware of everything going on.
I was slowly placed on something soft and gentle, the continuous footsteps faded and I had a vague feeling that I was alone. Slowly my eyes fluttered open and I gazed around sharp and cautious. I stayed in the same position allowing my bright blue eyes to gaze round and have an idea of my surroundings. I was alone like I thought and I was also lying on something soft... hay! A small canopy of woven fabrics covered the area making it dry and warm. It was like a poorly made tent that you saw when people where in the wilderness like now I guess.
Mystery took over and I slowly fluttered open my blue eyes, it was light breezy and the rough fabrics were made from the basics. I was alone, and hopefully it would stay that way, slowly I decided to rise to my feet making sure to be quiet just incase I was heard or seen. To my luck I was stealthy enough making it to the 'enterance.' It wasn't exactly a entrance but it was the only side that had a small path it was hidden by the trees. The best way to lead! I walked over carefully treading the ground of most likely my enemy.
When I reached the path I heard a rustle, it made me jump a mile; I spun round my eyes sharp and observant. Where had that come from? Oh well 'run Dawn run before they notice you!' My head kept telling me the same words and they were very tempting to trust. I spun back on my heel and started to walk...
"Uhm gong somewhere?" A voice asked... it was vaguely familiar, but who's? It was husky and sort of low so most likely to be someone round my age... there was only one person I knew round my age round here, but why would he follow me?!
"Alright you caught me! I'm guilty!" I sighed placing my hands in the air and turning round to face him... Rhydian!
"That's better I like to see the face of the person I'm talking to," he sat there a wooden mug in one hand and a pair of leather gloves in the other.
"Why did you follow me," I insist taking a step closer my eyes narrowing into slit.
"One simple answer... you were in danger."
"Nothing I couldn't handle." I spat lowering my hands so they lay upon my waist and the handle of my knife.
"Yes your inexperienced, you need to learn, there were people out there that even I can't handle." What! Even him, that was supposed to mean what?!
"Ha even you?!" I chortled holding back the laughter. "Who do you think you are?"
"One of the most skilled swordsmen in our lands," his reply was unsteady which made me think twice about my opinion. Maybe he was or maybe wasn't. I had to find out for myself, who knows he could be great and without the nightwalker I was less of a threat and allowing someone to join me could be useful.
"Alright come on then," I sighed not understanding why I just gave in, he better be quick on his feet before I change my mind.
"Excuse me?" Asked Rhydian probably unsure of what I just said.
"Ah , look I'm being kind at the moment do you want to join me or stay at your little camp all alone? If you coming grab your bag, we're off simples." I closed my eyes and rubbed my face with my dirty hands. "Look I'm sorry, I've never been good at being kind, what I'm trying to say is do you want to join my journey to kill the nightwalker?" I waited for a reply but not one came until he finally broke out from his trance .
"Um sure let me grab my stuff, can I just ask one thing?" I nodded my head waiting for him to ask the question...
"Do you have any idea where we're going?" I look at him dumbstruck.
"Not a clue. But I have a vague idea I think we should go to weather-heart hill and camp there, we'll be able to see from all angles." Rhydian nodded his head and we left to go down the less taken road.
We had been walking for a while now it was cold and I could sense something different on the air. Crack! I turned round quickly my gaze flittering all over the place. "Did you jus-" I was broken off by the same crack followed by a menacing growl. Shivers ran through my body, I swear it was getting colder, but how could it get colder in seconds? The growl came again but this time louder... "R-Rhydian?" Was all I could say, I clenched my knife and held it tight wishing this would be a lucky encounter.
"Stay close Dawn, this is going to be a close encounter," murmured Rhydian. I cold feel his breath increase rapidly as he drew his tatty sword and held it by the burnt handle.
"What, a-are they?" I stammered my eyes struggling to focus on one thing.
"I don't ahhhhhh!" He yelled as a fiery looking wolf appeared, it seemed to be on fire but wasn't affected by it! "T-they're apart of the legion, they're known as the inferno wolves! And they're not easy to kill...
Dawn someone's after you and they want you dead pretty bad,"
"It could just be a coincidence," I murmured sick to my stomach.
"No they're only summoned, only with the darkest of will. This is not going to be an easy fight so be ready and on guard. good luck," he said his voice dry and scratchy.
"You too," I ushered taking a deep breath and clutching my knife tighter, this was not going to be easy.
