The Y/N is completely gender neutral in this story, so it is up to the reader to decide what gender they are.

They have a friend, which is also gender neutral, what their name is, and what gender they are is up to the reader.

'It's a bit late, I'm gonna leave now,' Y/N said, knocking over the sofa's pillows, looking for their phone.

Their friend was sitting in the kitchen, watching videos from their phone.
They looked up at Y/N and gave them a stern, dumbstruck look from across the room when Y/N said they were leaving.
Their friend pushed the cup of water away and stood up from the table.

"What do you mean you're leaving? It's not a little late, its fricken night" Their friend said, clearly showing their disapproval.
Y/N merely continued to search the sofa for their phone.

Y/N found it under a pillow and checked the time.

A little over 1 am.

'Not too late' they replied, putting on their thin jacket, and looking around for their shoes.

"Woah! Y/N, absolutely not, it's in the dead of night, are you seriously leaving?" they asked, walking past the counter and into the living room.
Y/N hummed their reply, spotted their shoes, and grabbed them.

Y/N used the wall to lean against and quickly put on their shoe and headed for the exit.

"Why didn't you just leave earlier? Why didn't you tell me beforehand you can't stay over? Let me call a cab"

'Im walking, no need for that'

"Hey, no, you are not walking home alone"

'Relax, my house is a thirty-minute walk, I'll be fine.'

"Why are you leaving so suddenly and now of all hours?"

'You do know I never sleep over.'

"I've been meaning to ask about that, but now is not the time, you can't leave"

'I hate sleeping on couches'

"Take my bed!"

'I hate other people's bed'  They said, putting their phone into their pocket.

Y/N opened the door, waved at their friend, and left the house.

After walking down a couple of roads, their phone kept ringing with notifications from the same friend.
Y/N occasionally responded to it, assuring them that yes, they haven't been kidnapped in the 7 minutes they've been outside for, but It soon got annoying, Y/N was touched they had such a caring friend, but muted the phone, and continued on their way.

The alleyway they were passing was darker than most areas. While they walked, they took a look up at the sky. It was mostly pitch black from light pollution, but the visible stars looked dim and distant.
It wasn't cold but the air was cool, and nice against their face.
The silence was calming, and every so often, a single car would pass, adding a slight humm of sound to the air.
But that didn't bother Y/N, they always preferred noise over quiet, but that never meant they couldn't enjoy the silent scenario.

They felt bad about leaving, but what they said wasn't dishonest, they really just hated staying over in other people's houses, so much so that they'd rather walk home at 1 am, than sleep on the couch there.

Past the fifteen-minute mark,  Y/N stopped walking for a brief moment to make sure their friend hadn't called the police yet as there were already over 30 unread messages.
They responded casually with 'not dead, chill.' to dismiss most of it.
