Audrey (p.o.v)
"Audrey, Audrey darling, can you hear me?" The voice was familiar but I couldn't quite place it.
"Talk to me Audrey please." I tried, but all I managed to say was "Mmmm"
"Audrey, can you open your eyes for me just for a little while?"
"Agggga" Why can't he leave me alone.
"That's a good girl. Do you think you can you open you eyes for me? Just a little, then you can go back to sleep I promise."
I tried to open my eyes just so he would go away and not because I thought the guy deserved it. But I was rewarded with a sliver of light penetrating my world, it was as bright as a light house. That blinding light was the first interruption to the blackness and I was not going to let it go so easily.
"Good girl keep it up! Can you see me?"
Yes I could see! The man who had been talking had prominent cheek bones and a wide jaw. And his sandy hair was beginning to gray around the edges. He looked in his late 30's or early 40's, he was grinning down at me with an encouraging smile. The room I was in was white. The beeping came from a machine against the wall. The man who had been talking backed away giving me space which I was grateful for.
"Where am I?" I asked looking around trying, and failing, to find something familiar.
"You are at the Chidren's Hospital in Denver, you'v been asleep for nearly three days now. What do you remember?"
"Not much."
"That's not surprising. You've suffered some sever head trauma."
Just then there came the sound of of the door opening. In came a short man with dark brown hair. It was Obviously dyed because the white root's were showing.
"Audrey you're awake! Thank heavens." I recognized his voice as the ever-present "sir."
He came and sat on the edge of the bed.
"Who are you?" I asked, my brow furrowed. and why dus every one call you sir? are you the president or something? but I kept that last part to my self
"Oh, I guess it has been awhile my name is Dave, but if I remember correctly you liked to call me Graba."
"Grandpa Ingalls?"
Grandpa Ingalls was my father's father. My dad had left before I was even born, but when grandpa found out about me due to my father spilling his guts about me and my mom one night. Grandpa had come and found us. I was two. Dad had left mom with no money and carrying his child. Grandpa had saved us, given money for the bills and helped any way he could. We had gone to see him at least once a year until I was five.
"How are you feeling Sweetie?"
"Um OK I guess."
"Good, I have some news. Your mother has agreed to have you stay at my House for the summer, she said something about being in California longer then she had anticipated, that means that as soon as you're well we'll need to take a flight to my summer home in Idaho. are you ok whith that?"
"But can't I go home? What about my friend's?" OK that might, have been a good argument if I had Friends, but I don't. but he shouldn't know that, should he?
"I'm sorry honey but your mom told me that you were to come right to my house. And I agree, you need a breath of new air after the accident and Idaho is just the place."
"Please?" I begged
"No" the way he said it made no room for argument.
"yes sir" I can't believe I just called him that, but I guess I know why every one call's him that, he's scary.
"Good girl, now I'll leave you to get acquainted with Doc. Bowler."
"You know you'r can call me Brian right?" Said the first man who I assumed must be Brian.
"Of course." Granfather said already engrossed in some file's.
He left leaving Brian and I alone.
"Well he's lot's of fun to be around." Brian said
"Ya I always liked the pool in the back yard the best."
" I can see why. He's trying you know."
"I know but I don't wont it. just let me go home and I'll be fine, I can cook and I promise I'll do my home work or whatever. Just please let me go home I don't wont to be a burden."
"You wont be a burden I promise, and from what I'ev herd you grandfather is excited for you to stay with him he just dosen't show it vary well."
"Fine but I wont be happy about it."
"good, now, how would you like to see what we can do about you getting out of bed today?"
