Blaine and I go back to his house, which is only about five minutes away. I can't see much of the outside since it's already dark out, but from what I can see it's postmodern and has enormous windows spanning whole rooms. Once we're inside, it's even better than I could've imagined. Spacious, unique and monochrome furniture, extremely clean. You'd think a place that's so modern wouldn't feel cozy, but it has the right balance.
"Please make yourself comfortable," Blaine says, gesturing to the furniture in the room.
I walk over to the gray couch and sit down gingerly, reveling in the fact that I sink right down into the cushion. "Your place is gorgeous."
"Thank you. My decorator outdid herself." He strolls over to a bar cart. "What would you like to drink?"
"Sure. I'll take a martini or wine."
"Of course."
While he gets our drinks, I leave my clutch on the couch and get up to look around more. There's a decent sized fireplace in the center of this room, the couches and chairs are in a half circle facing it.
"Would you like me to start a fire?" Blaine joins me, handing me a glass. "It is fairly chilly, wouldn't you agree?"
"It is. And yes, that would be nice."
He places his drink on one of the side tables and gets a fire going. "Did you enjoy yourself tonight?"
"It was nice."
"Nice as in boring?"
I laugh. "Well..."
"You're not wrong. Sometimes it can be a little bit dull being there."
"Then why do you do it if you find it dull?"
The fire begins to crackle and he stands, picking up his drink. "Out of obligation. Expectation. I want to support the community and make sure I continue to be acquainted with my peers in the industry. Thankfully, these parties only come around once in a while and I'm often busy with work-related tasks."
"I see." While Scott did have certain parties and events he went to as a lawyer, they weren't nearly as fancy as this one. I definitely felt out of place and like I didn't quite belong.
"We don't have to go to another one together if you don't enjoy it," Blaine says after I don't say anything else for a moment.
"Oh, no. It's not that I didn't enjoy it."
"Then what is it?"
"I liked being there with you." I admit this reluctantly, even though it should be obvious to him that I am quite interested in him.
"Is that so?" He takes my almost empty glass and places both his and mine on a table. "So, you'd go anywhere with me?"
"Almost. I don't know if I'd go to a monster truck rally."
Blaine chuckles and gently tucks a strand of hair behind my ear. "Well, that's one place I have no interest in being at." He leans forward and murmurs, "But I would go almost anywhere with you, too."
I press my lips together, sorting the thoughts in my head as his closeness is causing them to practically spin out of control. "Would you like to join me on the couch?"
"Actually," he says, "I would like to start here."
Before I can react, his lips are on mine. Soft and gentle. I melt into the kiss, wanting nothing more than to taste all of Blaine fully. His lips caress and glide over mine, his tongue teasing the seam of my mouth.
The first time he kissed me was brief, barely a brushing of the lips. Zero lip over lip action.
But this?
