“Do you honestly think he didn’t have his own cell key?”
“Why didn’t he keep it?!”
“You can’t get out of Hell on your own,” Zack shrugged. He dug around in the fridge, as he always does, and pulled out strawberries. “Romantic.”
“Taylor.”
“Tay’s a newbie. He’s rambunctious and out of control. He’s a ball of energy, and he had the Succubus’s help,” Zack said. “Do we have any chocolate?”
“Would you stop focusing on your damned food and pay attention to the matter at hand?!” I shrieked. He raised an eyebrow at me. “Genesis is in Hell, Zack. Actual Hell.”
“Gen’s in Hell?!” Taylor entered the kitchen. Shit. “What’s he doing in Hell?! Zack, did you kill him?”
“No, he’s being called in for punishment.”
“How’d they get to him before me?”
“Yes, we totally know,” Zack rolled his eyes. “We do,” he pulled out a bar of chocolate and melted it in the microwave. “Chocolate-covered strawberries?”
I blinked at him, “Are you serious?”
“Apparently not,” he whistled. “More for me.”
“How can you just sit there and-?!”
“Treble, sweetheart, I know you’re upset and you’re worried, but there are a few things you have yet to learn about Genesis and Hell,” Zack bit into a strawberry. “One, Gen is very tough. There’s nothing he can’t handle. Two, Hell takes a long time to process demons into. Demons are not top priority. Souls are. So he won’t be in his cell until maybe next week, and we can’t get to him unless he’s in a cell. Not allowed in processing.”
I took a deep breath, holding out my hand for a strawberry. Zack shook his head, drenching the thing in chocolate and holding it for me to bite into. “You’re a dork.”
“Sexiest dork you’ll ever marry,” he winked. I rolled my eyes, holding back a smile and biting into the strawberry. He tossed the top over his shoulder, landing it in the sink. Taylor rolled his eyes.
“You’re gross,” he groaned. “Touchy-feely bullshit makes me wanna puke.”
“Lucky for you,” Eros stepped in, “I love touchy-feely bullshit. Where’s Gen?”
“Hell,” I sent Zack a sharp look. He nodded, and Eros screeched. “Punishment being reinstated.”
“Goddammit, Gen!” Eros threw open the fridge, digging around and pulling out a bottle of whiskey. “You don’t mind if I drink, do you, Treble?”
“I don’t care,” I sighed. “On a totally unrelated note, I’m gonna go upstairs.”
“I won’t be drunk, Treble,” he nodded. “I swear, I won’t get drunk.”
“I will,” Taylor shrugged. “It happens.”
I rolled my eyes, “When do we get Gen?”
“Next week,” Zack nodded, holding out another strawberry. “I need to call someone to fix the window.”
Taylor clapped a hand over his mouth, laughing loudly, “Guess your whole lusty thing is gonna go unsatisfied until he gets back.”
Zack had a hand on the back of Taylor’s neck before I could stop him, and the two broke into a wrestling match. I sighed unnoticeably, moving the strawberries and melted chocolate before they got spilled.
