March 26 2009.
A cold spring breeze went through the cracks of the half-closed blinds. George on his comfortable sofa, wrapped with a very warm winter blanket not daring to expose even the slightest of his skin. He shivered as the breeze passed his face, making him recoil under the blanket for protection on this unforgiving weather.
"Honey.. I have to go.. are you going to be fine?" said a very familiar feminine voice behind him. A slight pinch on George's nose with her cold fingers was enough for him to hiss back at his chuckling mother. He covered his face over, squirming around the sofa as his mother tickled him in a desperate attempt to see his smile before she goes.
"Mum stop!" He begged his mother, holding his giggles to the best he could. His mother knew that George was put in a lot of stress recently since the things between her and her husband were complicated to say the least. She wanted George to live his childhood to the fullest extent with no regrets as she didn't get to live hers as she wanted to.
She sat beside the curled up George on the sofa as she planted a kiss on his head over the blanket, patting him a couple of times before leaving the house. As soon as George heard the door close behind her, he immediately wriggled himself out of the entangled blanket wrapped on his body, stumbling around the furnitures and making his way to the high window which went up to his nose. He went on his tippy toes, desperately keeping his eyes above the window as he waited for his mother to enter the car and drive off the road under the gloomy sky.
Just soon after, the sky finally cried after withholding what seemed to be years of pain, crashing down with one swift downpour. It was heavy and it was surely hurting.
George reached his hand out to touch the tiny droplets that fell on the roof. One, two and three, he pulled his hand back looking at the three droplets on his hand. His eyes glistened at the thought of his crumbling family as he looked at the droplets. He angrily wiped his hand off on his shirt as he thought about how he hated the fact that everything he does made him think about their current family situation.
He turned around and looked back at the empty and lifeless living room, making him feel the uneasy vibe that his house emitted. Being home alone made it easier for his thoughts to flow through his mind. Reminiscing about past memories with his family a few years back when they built the Treehouse on their lawn as happy as one family could be, he wondered what went wrong.
After a couple of hours of laying on the sofa playing on his Nintendo, he heard a car pull up. He immediately sat up straight and looked at the wall clock
'14:46 pm' it was too soon for either of his parents to be home yet. He stood up and looked at the open window facing the front yard, it was their neighbor, new neighbors. The empty house just across the street was finally bought after being vacant for a year.
A brunet man and a dirty blonde woman went out of the car with folders covering their head from the heavy rain. They laughed as they opened the back door of the car, and a boy with bright blonde hair got out slowly. He smiled brightly at the two as his wet hair glued on his face with each raindrop, which just made the couple laugh harder at his expense.
George grasped his chest. The boy felt like a sunflower in the rain, radiating happiness with his refreshing smile under such a gloomy weather. George envied the radiant power that this boy had.
'All I had to do was smile?'
His gaze then followed the happy family as they entered their new home, commencing their new life together. George, however, still stuck between maybes, retreated back to his lonely sofa, wrapping himself with the winter blanket in an attempt to recreate a warm hug which probably was what he needed right at this moment.

After hours of gaming and occasional eating, George found himself in a dimly lit room which only light source came from the Nintendo he was playing on, he had lost track of time. He looked at the wall clock
'19:59 pm' Just in time. He then heard a car pull up on his driveway as he excitedly went on the window to greet them
'With a smile... just like the boy in the rain' he reminded himself.
The rain has subsided at this point. The sky finally cleared as the stars came out of hiding, lighting up the pitch black sky. He looked at the window and saw both of them in the car, talking.
'Ok! Here they come!'
They slowly went out of the car. Muffled voices turned into unfiltered shouts as they continued arguing outside the car. The smile from his face slowly faded, frown contorted his happy features as the two walk up to the door.
Keys rattled frantically, doors slam, muffled voices as they shut themselves in the bedroom once again. George was still alone. He looked out of the window to the treehouse and smiled faintly.
'Tomorrow will be better' the young boy assured himself.
