My hand reached in front of me, gliding the palm across the fogged mirror to clear a path so I could stare at my face. The week old bruise underneath my eye was there as clear as day. But it was nothing I couldn't cover with makeup. My body was aching from last night and this morning, but I let it go to cover my black eye with concealer and setting powder. I was just finishing up when Cairo appeared behind me."Going somewhere?" he questioned.
"Caren, she really wants to see me. I want to see the kids." I let him know as I finished covering the discoloration around my eye. "She's been calling me nonstop and probably worrying."
"You ain't gotta explain." Cairo said wrapping his arms around my waist from behind and resting his chin on my shoulder. He eyed me intently in mirror. "You covered it right."
I half smiled. "Thank you. I should get dressed."
"Listen..." he turned me around by my waist to face him, "Two hours; you gotta photoshoot for yo' EP. You need to be on time."
"I will I promise."
Cairo stayed in his position in front of me, staring down at me so attentive and expressionless, I felt nervous. I never know what to expect from my own husband and I've been married to him this long.
"Why did chu do it?"
I know he's referring to the abortion. "We... um, wouldn't have been able to handle it, baby. Margo plus two babies and our careers, how were we supposed to do that?"
"It coulda worked," he believed, "You decided to be selfish and choose to do som' thing you knew I woulda never agreed to. That EP coulda been put on hold. You have any regret?"
"I regret it for hurting you. And I'm sorry."
Cairo stepped closer, kissing me on the lips, each time lasting longer. I felt comfortable in his arms for that moment until he wrapped closer around my back and I winced. It made him pull backwards slightly. "I squeeze to hard?"
"My back hurts."
"It was that arch from last night and morning." he chuckled, smacking my ass and making me chuckle myself.
