Aidan and Everett ran the distance from our car to the hospital, which seemed to take forever. We got inside and Aidan set me down in a chair in the waiting area and he and Everett went up to talk to the receptionist. At this moment, I realized that I was still in my tigger pj's. I got extremely self-conscious at that point. It really couldn't be any worse at this point, now could it? I had an ankle that was completely opposite than what it should be, I was in my pj's in public (and, more importantly, in front of my crush), my face was all puffy from crying, my head was also throbbing from my excessive crying, and I felt terrible all over. I looked over at Aidan and Everett, who were still talking to the receptionist lady. About two minutes later (which in reality felt like two hours), Aidan and Everett, as well as the receptionist came over to me with a wheelchair. She smiled, sadly, at me.
"Honey," she said, "We're going to take you back to the ER and hook you up to an IV so you can get some numbing medicine into your system. A doctor should be in as soon as possible. I hope you feel better."
"OK." I replied. That was the only thing I could manage to say without bursting out into tears again from the pain.
~~
"It's a clean break." the doctor said after reviewing my x-ray. Do you see the line here between these two bones?"
I nodded.
"Well, those used to be one bone, and you broke your ankle clearly into two separate bones. I am going to set it and then we will put it into a cast. Because of the way that your ankle is now, I am going to recommend that we put you under while we set it. Is that all right with you?" The doctor asked.
"I mean, I guess it's fine." I replied. Thanks to the numbing medicine, the pain in my ankle had reduced to a dull throb.
A few minutes later, the doctor returned with a few other doctors and some anesthesia. As he was putting it into my IV, the one lady doctor (who introduced herself to me as Marie), began to talk to me.
"Alright, Aiko. Have you ever had anesthesia before?" She asked. I nodded my head as to say no. "Ok then. Basically, the anesthesia gives you some extravagant dreams, so I am going to recommend that you think happy thoughts as you fall asleep. It will not only help you from waking up from a bad dream, but it will help us as well because, the more at rest you are, the easier it is for us to do our job."
As she finished talking, I began to feel giddy. My mouth was moving before my brain was processing what I was saying, and boy was I embarrassed. I swear that anesthesia made me a bit high.
"So, Marie, pretty much what you are saying is that I have to think of Everett and all of my problems will be ok? Because Everett is perfect in every. single. way. I mean look at his hair! It's light brown and it is kinda...."
