Chapter Twenty-six

Theme:Confession II (Hailey's)

🤧😈   TANIA'S POV🤧😈

   "Yeah,I'm a cancer patient."

That was the first time I ever opened up to anyone aside my family whom are all well aware about my condition. But I didn't feel as I thought I would, I thought I'd be scared and perhaps shiver in fear because someone else knows my secret but it was different, like a weight was lifted off my shoulder. Would it feel this way if I told Adrian or Hailey? Or do I feel this way because I'm talking to someone with the same condition?.

   When I replied that I had cancer,I heard a noise out the door like someone dropped something, someone who was listening to what we were saying. I hurried to the door but I found no one nor a trace of anyone leaving. That was weird!

   I went back to Ryan's bedside and he told me to sit on the bed right next to him,I did so and I must say,we were so close that our skin brushed onto each other. It was awkward because i felt nothing,not even a racing heart. It was always different with Adrian..............

   "I've been battling with cancer for 3 years and with all the treatment I've gotten,I'm already in stage 3...... I don't think I'd make it. Deep down this red hair and this guy....... I'm scared,I'm scared of dying,it's a frightening thought" Ryan said with a shaky voice and with fear in his eyes.

    "You will make it,don't ever think you won't ......you are already getting treatment and you are responding to it so well,I can see you getting healed". I said as I held his hands softly and calmed his nerves as I looked into his eyes.

    " I hope so........ I really do. What stage are you??!" Ryan asked.

    "Me?!".

   I left Ryan's ward and went to look for Hailey as I was ready to leave. I walked down the hospital hallway but didn't see a trace of her,it was a really big hospital, searching for someone would be hard unless you call them. Yes,I'll call her!

   As I called her,i could hear her ring tone close by but she wasn't picking up so I traced the ringtone and I saw her with her aunt,she was getting scolded for something so I hid to know what it was.

    " What in the world where you thinking when you dropped my kids at the Daycare,I did not send you to do that for goodness sake!!" Hailey's aunt screamed.

    "But you drop them at the Day care after school,what is wrong with what i did?" Hailey asked with a frown.

      "How dare you question me? You leave my kids off at the Daycare without me telling you to do so. And you show up at the hospital like a lost pet looking for it's owner,Go back to the kids now and take them home!!" Hailey's aunt commanded.

    "I'll do that after I'm through with what i came here for"

    "You are forgetting who I am and what I'm capable of doing to you,don't make me lose my temper. Go back to my kids now!"

    "Your kids are safe,aunt! I'd take them home once I'm done here"

    "You are just like your mother! Her mentally derailed blood flows in you!!" Hailey's aunt shouted with a wide stare.

     "Don't you call my mother that or you'll regret it" Hailey said with anger.

    And like thunder, her aunt gave her a resounding slap across her face.

    "You disgust me and its only a matter of time before I send you to your hell hole. Go take my kids home,they are all I care about. You can go to hell for all I care!" Hailey's aunt said as she walked out on her.

   Hailey held her face as she had not recovered from the slap yet. Her face was so red since her complexion was extra white. I felt bad for her,her aunt was even way horrible than Adrian's Dad. How did she bear to live with someone like that?! Her aunt is no different from a monster! I wish I could hit her or send her to jail,aarghh!!

    Hailey took a seat by the rooftop and I could tell she was crying. I showed up some minutes after the incident and she was a total mess,no consolation could fix her but I was ready to stay by her no matter what she was passing through.

    I sat beside her and gave her a warm hug with no words in between. And then she bursted into tears like a lost child, it broke my heart to see the super strong and always excited Hailey that way. Now I know,we all hide behind a scar,behind an ugly story and no one has a better fate than the other,its just messed up. Amidst the tears and pain,Hailey started talking..........  

     "I was just a kid when I started living with my aunt,she was my worst nightmare. I did not get to have that perfect father or loving mother,my Dad was a drug lord and he was killed by a rival,my mum became delusional after the death of her husband and she was consuming too much hard drugs. They took her to the mental asylum and that's how I lost everything, my mum's not dead but she's more like a living dead cos she's not functioning normally anymore.

    Because of how complicated my family was,I was put in the custody of my aunt. She tortured me,rebuked me,threatened me and some times she would bring up my mother into a discussion and say some hurtful words about her. I couldn't take anything regarding my mother so I always react and then she'd hit me or starve me for days or she might not give me allowance.

    I grew up amidst hate and fear,it affected my social life and that's why you met me as a loner in school. The only thing that puts me together are my cousins, they are such sweet children unlike her that sometimes I  wonder if she's truly their mother. She's cruel and selfish"

   Hailey finally confessed about her background in tears and a broken heart. I could finally understand why she never talked about it,but why do people confess about their situation when they are at their weakest and broken state?!

   I just hugged her to let know i was here for her and I'm on the table that her aunt is cruel. After everything, she wiped her face and asked me a question, it was unexpected and creepy too.......

     "What's your own story,Tania?!"

   "Story? I never had any bothersome childhood so I'm all good. There's no story here!" I said nervously trying to sweep it under the carpet.

   "You don't have any story,what about your illness.....   I heard you and Ryan"

    "Ryan and i??!!💔💔

    " Yes! And he asked if you had cancer,I heard it all."
