I looked in the mirror. Blue eyes. Long, dark brown hair; all in soft curls. I wore a short floral dress with cute peach flats.
This was me. Then.
My name is Aubrey Martha Duncan, and this is the story of how I died. But don't worry it's actually a very good story and the truth is, I never technically died (physically anyway).
By the end of this story, I want you to take away something I wish I had of been told before that day at the music festival.
"Live every moment like its your last."
Because the truth is it very well could be your last. And for me? It was.
Until I woke up.

~One~
I answered the front door in my floral dress.
"Bre! Hurry up, we have to go!" exclaimed my best friend.
"Lil, you're so impatient." I reply, mimicking her whiney tone.
Me and Lilly had been planning this day for weeks. 'The Tune Festival of Music' was playing in town, all the hottest bands were going to be there.
Aahhh, my medium size home town of Glitsburg. Home to a lot of lovely people, if you can find them amongst the bimbo housewives and drunken men who are constantly trying to out-do each other.
"This is gonna be totally insane." Lilly squeals as I climb into the taxi after her.
"Where are we off too today ladies?" the cab driver asks. 'My doom' is what I should have said.
"The Tune Festival please." I reply, smiling at my friend next to me.
It was already so loud when we arrived I could barely hear the words that left my mouth.
"I see him!" I attempt to notify Lilly.
I weave through people towards him, Lilly right behind me."Tyler!" I shout when I get close. He turns and smiles at the sight of me. We meet and hug in the mass of people.
"Having fun?" He asks me after pecking me on the lips softly.
"Only just got here, but yeah, I sure am!" I smile and he kisses my forehead.
"Ok you two, less mushy love shit and more mosh pit. We want good spots for when 'The Knights' come on." Lilly interrupts, putting her hands on our shoulders.
I laughed harder than what it was worth, but I guess I was just really happy. We move through the crowd, my hand in Tyler's and Lilly's in my other. We get about 2 meters away from the stage and can't push any further forward. Pretty good spots if you ask me.
The band comes on and I immediately scream at the top of my lungs, Lilly yelling just as loud beside me. They start singing and we jump up and down to the beat while Tyler hangs back a bit.
And I suppose I'll say it like this, because truthfully it really was like time slowed down. Like the universe was slowing down just for me to have more time.
When my feet hit the ground on the millionth jump, I felt an excruciating pierce into my back. I tried to scream but nothing came out as I began to fall. Tyler barely realizes in time to catch me and lie me down in the maze of dancing legs.
"Bre?! Aubrey what is it? What's happened?!" Tyler panics as he holds my body. He pulls a hand from under my back and it's covered in blood. His eyes widen and I see them starting to water. Or maybe it was just my vision starting to go along with the loss of my blood.
Lilly turns and drops beside us in horror.
"Aubrey! Come on stay with us, please." She begs of my life as my eye lids flutter. Tyler was in shock and couldn't speak even if he tried.
And it was weird because I don't remember feeling much physical pain at all.
"We love you Aubrey, just stay with us! Please!" Lilly begins to sob.
"Somebody call an ambulance!" she shouts through tears. I look from her terrified face to Tyler's, then nothing.
Darkness.
That's all it took. Just one moment and my old life was over.
And I awaited my new life to begin.
