Nadia's POV

I was just about to swim away when I heard a loud scream and swam frantically to investigate. I hated the thought of anything dying, especially when I could have done something to save them, or at least prolong their existence by even a second. When I got to the ship, there was nobody around, so I decided to dive underwater to continue my search. Sure enough, a human girl was limply floating about, blood trailing through the water and surrounding her with a small, vague pool of deep red.  I grabbed her around the waist and swam up to the surface of the water, taking into account that she didn't have gills, and held her head above the water as I took her to the beach. When we arrived, I gently laid her down on the sand.

What do I do? What do I do? I thought, panicked. I then rolled her over onto her side; I had no idea what else to do. She briefly regained consciousness, just long enough to cough up the water that made its way into her human lungs. I breathed a sigh of relief as she rolled back over onto her back and began breathing normally again.

But I was still extremely curious.

I moved her hair out of her face and looked at her momentarily. Although there were no noticeable differences in structure, her face was exceedingly pretty. Then, I let my eyes travel to her neck, where her gills would have been. I ran my fingertips along it. I couldn't believe how smooth it was. I continued to move down, because there was one more thing that I was curious about: legs.

I scooted down to where her, oh, what did they call them, feet! I scooted down to where her feet were and pulled the strange cloth covering her legs up halfway, until it got to the point where her legs bent.

I think those are called "knees"?

I ran a webbed hand up the front of her right one and felt the bone in the very front. But I jerked my hand back quickly when she let out another soft cough and moved her arm up to her head. I froze with fear as she weakly turned her head towards me and her eyes fluttered open. I looked at her for a brief second before diving back into the ocean and swimming away.

As I swam back home, I remembered the way she looked at me when our eyes met, and how soft her skin was. I wish I could've seen more of her legs, I thought. I really want to know how they work...

And, with a sigh, I went home.
