Despite the burning feeling all over her skin, Irene huddled herself under as many blankets as she could find. Breathing heavily, she found herself unable to move even as Mari took away some of her blankets and placed a towel on her head.
"Don't use so many blankets, Irene. You could get even worse," Mari lightly scolded.
"Everytime-"
The sick girl interrupted herself through a fit of cough, which made the burning worsen.
"Everytime I get sick, I get really, really sick. Is it bad to try and comfort myself through such?"
"No, not at all, but the sooner you cooperate with me, the sooner you'll get better, understand?"
"Understood," Irene croaked. "If it's not much of a bother, may I have a blueberry smoothie?"
"Absolutely. Now, just give me a moment-"
Knock knock. A soft pounding on the door interrupted Mari, much to her annoyance.
"After I answer the door, I'll come back with the blueberry smoothie. Just rest, alright Irene?"
From a distance, Irene listened to Mari's footsteps getting further and further away down the hall. A gasp was the last thing she expected to hear from Mari's voice.
"Areum, what are you doing here?" she said.
"I came to apologize to Irene. I know she probably doesn't want me here, but if you can give me a chance to-"
"No, that is strictly Irene's choice," Mari interrupted.
"Let her in," Irene called out. "I want to hear what she has to say."
After a light huff, Mari gave up. "Very well then. You may pass."
"Thank you."
Tap tap tap. Areum's footsteps were very light compared to Mari's. Even as they got closer, they were just as quiet.
"Irene?" Areum began, opening the creaky door. With a polite nod, Mari left the pair alone.
"Irene," she repeated. But Irene was facing away from her, staring at the wall instead.
Areum kneeled next to her bed, tempted to reach out. "I'm very sorry...about the way I treated you. I shouldn't have let my emotions hurt you. It's all my fault."
Irene didn't respond.
The musician did what she could to suppress the tears welling in her eyes. "Irene, I honestly didn't mean to say that. It was a lie, it really was."
Irene was silent again.
"I-I...we may just be friends, but your company means a lot to me. More than you could imagine..."
A cold silence filled the room yet again. Neither of them spoke, for there was nothing to say. Until Irene finally opened her mouth to speak.
"Don't get close to me."
Areum scoots further away.
"You'll catch my fever. I don't want you to get sick."
The green-eyed girl rolled over, keeping her body covered by the thick blanket on top of her. She couldn't, however, hide her extremely sick safe, complete with a very pale tone and flushed nose and cheeks.
"A-are you crazy?" Areum scolded. "You're the one that needs to be taken care of here! Hold on, let me make you some things. How did you even get this sick?"
