CHAPTER ONE- The case of the missing (fuzzy) striped socks

I'm looking and rummaging through all of our cardboard boxes, as carefully as possible, for my wonderful pair of fuzzy socks. Well, they're more slippers actually. They are striped blue and green and each have a bow stamped on. They are my absolute favourite things in the world- apart from the obvious, y'know, you gotta love your family, right?

"Jane!" yells my mom from the door. "Hurry up! We only have an hour!"
"Sounds like plenty of time to me," I grumble.
"Not really," Dad swoops past me holding yet another cardboard box. "The plane leaves in an hour and a half,"

Ugh. We're leaving our nice apartment in Manhattan, and moving north to the Rocky Mountains. The Canadian side (Not that I have any issues with Canadians, but I heard the weather there is cold. I'm talking igloos and frozen tundra here). Well, not on the actual mountain, obviously, but in Vancouver which is the neighbouring city. We found a house there with a really good price, which apparently is extremely hard to find in Canada. And plus, there's family. Mom and Dad both grew up in Vancouver, so our whole family lives there.

"JANE!" Mom practically screams.
"Alright, alright," I mutter, take one last look for my slippers, and rush to the door.
"Farewell, sweet apartment! I'll see you... in the afterlife I guess,"
"Jane Hayley Martin. If you don't get down here this instant, you'll be grounded for the rest of your life,"
Uh-oh. That's Mom's über deadly voice.
"Ok... SEE YA!" I bid my lovely home goodbye, and run to the elevator like there's no tomorrow (I don't get that saying, there's always a tomorrow. Unless the world ends. Duh, Jane).

***
"Should I confiscate it?" Nikolas, the security guard or whatever they're called asks what I think is the head security guard. Apparently, my brother's Nerf gun is considered a weapon, as well as my perfectly tangy Orange Crush pop cans (What am I going to do, shake 'em until they explode?).

The head security guard strokes her chin. " I don't know about that... I'll have to ask the head,"
How many heads can a person have?
"Oh for god's sake, just keep it!" Mom exasperatedly says. "We have to go, our flight leaves in half an hour!"
After a good ten minutes of arguing, they let us through the metal detector. But alas dear friends, we were held back because of the metal buttons on my Dad's jeans.

We finally make it to the entry, and mom thrusts the boarding passes to the guy.
"Photo ID?" he asks, and we all show him our photos on our health cards (I gotta tell you, I was nine when they took that picture, and I didn't really care about the state my hair was in. So I'm both relieved and annoyed that the photos match.).
Then we get to run through that cool tube that leads to the plane, and we hit foul airplane air once we get inside.
"Don't worry," Dad "reassures" us when he sees our wrinkled noses. "It's only for today,"
Yeah, dad, only six hours in this cramped plane squashed between Danny and mom.

This was going to be a long ride. Without those stupid fuzzy socks.

Hey everyone! Hopefully this was a good start; I've never published anything on Wattpad before! Uh, so, the main character is called Jane Martin. She lives with her mom (Grace), her dad (Douglas) and her twit of a brother, Daniel. Jane is 13 years old, and is going into grade eight at her new school (In Canada, you start kindergarten at age 3-4, and there are 2 levels of kindergarten.). As you can probably tell, she is reluctant to move from her hometown, or should I say, home city, Manhattan, which is in the state of New York.
This story is for tweens to early teens. It is not about romance (Okay, there might be a smidgen of crushing going on). I am aiming this book to be a story about the power of friendship. As they say, besties before boys. I feel like there is a lot of romantic influence on Tweens and teens today, and as an early teen, I am somewhat disgusted by the Western culture. WOW. I SHOULD TOTALLY GO ON OPRAH RIGHT? AM I INSPIRATIONAL OR WHAT?
Anyways, if you're looking for a Twilight themed book or a Hermoine Granger and Draco Malfoy love story or ANYTHING to do with love, for that matter, this is definitely not the right book to read. But if the book is successful, I'll do sequels in which the characters grow older, so there might be some romance involved. Oh and by the way! I'll try not to make any grammatical or spelling mistakes. I absolutely HATE it when Wattpad books have errors. A series that I have always loved is called the Red Blazer Girls (I forgot the name of the author- I think it's Michael something), and it was an inspiration for this ebook (you'll see why). I just finished the series in Vancouver (It's March Break), and I am in the Beautiful British Colombia as I write this. It's so warm here; you can literally wear a T-shirt outside, and it's March 14th! ( I'm from Toronto, and the Winter sure is bitter!)

Aaanyway, hope you guys liked this chapter (I don't mean actually pressing the LIKE button), and sorry if I get overboard sometimes in the Author's Note. I have a habit of getting off topic. I bid you farewell, just like Jane did to her old apartment, "SEE YA!"

ps: That's me on the cover page walking on the suspension bridge on the Rocky Mountains! Thought you guys might be interested.
