"Emery, love! Can you grab the charger for me, please?" My older brother's voice echoed from upstairs.

"Can't you get it yourself? You have hands!" Ate Emery's voice boomed from the kitchen, where she was busy cooking.

"Love, I'm carrying baby Idris," my brother responded, a hint of playfulness in his tone.

As their playful banter continued, my phone suddenly rang, and I eagerly answered, hearing the familiar voice of my boyfriend on the other end.

"Hey, what's up?" I greeted him with genuine excitement.

"We need to talk. Can you meet me at the address I'll send you?" His voice was calm but carried a hint of seriousness.

Curiosity mingled with concern coursed through me. I wondered what could be so important that he wanted to meet in person.

A smile curled on my lips as I hurriedly made my way to the walk-in closet, selecting an outfit that would match the occasion.

Our journey together had spanned a year, filled with beautiful moments, shared dreams, and occasional challenges. My boyfriend, torn between his passion for the creative arts and his family's expectations, had reluctantly chosen a path in medicine, following the footsteps of his esteemed family members who were renowned doctors and lawyers.

"Let's head to Sweet Leaf Cafe" I instructed my driver, my mind swirling with memories of both the joys and the hurdles we had faced together.

However, an unexpected sense of unease gnawed at my heart. Perhaps it was mere premenstrual tension, or maybe it was a foreboding sign of something more significant unfolding.

"Why can't you choose me?" I found myself asking, my voice laced with vulnerability as I sought to understand his inner struggle.

"Amari, this is my dream. It's something I've yearned for, and I hope you can understand," he replied sincerely, his words tinged with a touch of regret.

"I understand the importance of your dreams, but does it mean our journey together must come to an end?" I could feel tears welling up, despite my best efforts to hold them back. "Is it because of Christine? Is she the one they expect you to be with? You once professed your love for me, promising to fight for us no matter what. What happened to those promises? Have they lost their meaning? You assured me that you would honor them, but it seems something has changed." The pain in my voice mirrored the ache in my heart, aching for clarity and reassurance.

The possibility of him letting go felt like a devastating blow. He had become my anchor, the source of my happiness.

"Amari, you can achieve your dreams even if I'm not by your side," he whispered softly, his voice filled with a mix of tenderness and determination.

"But how? How can I fulfill the promises we made when you're no longer part of the equation?" Desperation laced my words, my heart yearning for answers.

He hesitated for a moment, his eyes searching for the right words. "You deserve someone who will love and choose you unequivocally, without any doubts. I'm not that person."

His admission pierced my heart, and a tumultuous mix of emotions swirled within me—a blend of frustration, sadness, and a profound sense of loss.

"But I don't want anyone else but you!" I pleaded, my voice trembling with raw emotion. "I'll... I'll..." Taking a deep breath, I mustered my strength. "I'll find solace in your happiness. I genuinely wish you success and fulfillment... Goodbye." With those words hanging in the air, tears streaming down my face,

I turned away from him, each step carrying me further from the life we had built together.

I loved him with every fiber of my being. I was willing to go to great lengths for him.

But now, it was time to embark on a new chapter.

To release the memories that held me captive and embrace the journey of self-discovery.

From that moment forward, I made a solemn vow to forget him and keep moving forward, confident that brighter days lay ahead.
