Fresh starts.
Baek Jangmi kept thinking to herself as she finished ironing her uniform for school tomorrow. The first day of school is no stranger to her, but is still something she prepares and looks forward to every time it came around. Especially now that she's experiencing it for the last time.
Exactly as she was hanging up her neatly ironed uniform, two boys burst into her room tumbling down one another. They were so close that one would mistake them for being twins who have never separated for a minute for the rest of their lives.
"What made you guys think that both of you have the rights to just barge in this room unannounced?" Jangmi asked trying to save her clothes from being any more crumpled after having two boys dumped on it.
"Sorry sis, it's just that we heard a door open from outside but it's just us three in the house right now." Sunoo explained while helping up his friend.
Although the two bicker as if there was no end, Jangmi and Sunoo weren't always the best of friends. When they first met after their parents got remarried to each other, they barely spoke a word to each other. For the first time, Jangmi knew she wanted to be the first one to start up a conversation. She thought that being younger, Sunoo might be shy in approaching her first so she wanted to break down the walls between them.
"Maybe it's just our parents trying to come home Sunoo, we live with them too remember?" Jangmi jokingly said while pointing outside to their mother who was organizing her newly-bought groceries.
"Maybe mom bought us snacks from outside!" Sunoo excitedly ran out greeting their mom and dad leaving his friend yet again, on the floor.
"Sorry about that." The boy apologised.
"It's not the first time you and Sunoo came in here barging Niki, by this time it should be normal for me already." Jangmi jokes while extending her hand to help him up.
Niki was also someone dear to Sunoo and Jangmi. When Sunoo first moved in, he had a hard time making friends with other kids his age. That's when Jangmi introduced them to each other. Living in the neighborhood all her life, she knew a few people around including Niki. She adored the boy when they were younger, treating him as her younger brother before she had Sunoo. So when the time came, she knew Niki was the perfect friend for her stepbrother.
"Jangmi! Niki! Hurry up outside, mom bought us teokbokki!" Sunoo screams from down the hall knowing that they're a teokbokki loving trio, which ultimately made the two running as fast as they can.
The last day of summer vacation went by like a breeze, with the three of them munching on snacks while watching random movies and talking about anything that popped into their minds. With their parents out for another date night, the three were once again left at home to enjoy themselves. Hanging out at home during the weekends was something done regularly by the brother and sister, but the fact that Niki was able to join the duo today was something special.
