it's the final class of the day and i'm headed to the theater room. Our teacher gave us the task of coming up with a way to make a modern day Romeo and juliet play.
it's our job to write the script, design the costumes, and assign the roles. This is our first day working on this assignment and our teacher comes into the class and says good morning then he leaves. He told us that he wants to be completely surprised by the play, so he won't be there for any of our classes.
The lights dim and the curtains separate "i would like everyone to welcome our newest class member" a spot light comes on and under it is the girl from my last class period. "rrrromonaaaaa" says our teacher says while rolling the R.
He literally does this for every new student. If you look up the word "drama" in the dictionary, his face will be right next to it.
After the most dramatic introduction ever, Romana walked off the stage and began walking towards me.
"is he always like this?"she ask.
"i'm afraid you might drop out if i answer that honestly" i reply with a slight smile.
She rolls her eyes "my friend jerry would love him"
i let out a small laugh. "so did he tell you about our assignment"
"he said that all he could do was point me in your direction since you're in charge of everything"
i roll my eyes "i wouldn't say all that. We haven't even assigned rolls yet"
"well just let me know what i need to do and i'll be ready captain" Romana stood up straight and raised her hand to her forehead to salute me.
"this is gonna be a long school year" i say while walking towards the stage.
We took a vote for who would lead the project and i ended up getting the most votes. No one actually cared about leading the project though, everyone just wanted to get a good grade.
everyone on the stage gathered around me so we get the plans together.
"so do you guys know what rolls you want?" i asked while looking around at everyone
"i want romeo" said one guy
"me too" said another
"well not everyone can be romeo" i laughed
"can i try for romeo?"
i turned around and saw Romona behind me with her hand up.
although our project is supposed to be modern, i have no clue if our teacher would allow a girl to play Romeo and that's if romona even gets the part.
buttt since i am the coordinator i'm allowed to do whatever i want!
"as long as your audition is good enough then you can be whoever you want guys"
"and with that being said, good luck with auditions"
